I've got several of these and the accuracy for me has been super accurate (and it's adjustable in the app for anyone who is convinced otherwise). Highly recommended :)
Um, YES!! I just paid $4/egg for my local eggs (and I drove two hours away to get them)!! I also had some shipped and paid slightly less per egg but then also had to pay shipping... so those work out to slightly more per egg total.
Like @Vantic said, I'm geeky and I like the data, but it's absolutely not essential :) Weighing can help you track weight loss for the egg, which can tell you if the humidity is too high or too low.
*Squeee* candled on day 4 because I was impatient (and I also wanted to weigh my eggs, which I didn't do when I put them in the incubator because the scale went MIA) and 7 of my 9 are clearly developing! I also got another batch of eggs in the mail which I will put in the incubator tomorrow (I...
Might be nice to have, but not having one is not a dealbreaker - glad press'n'seal on top works really well, and it doesn't hurt anything if they jump on top and poop - you're cleaning the brooder regularly anyways, it's not much more work to replace the wrap on the heat plate.
I bought two brinsea ecoglows a while back - they were the only ones without reviews talking about melting/burning. I’ve had no issues with them - they work great, chicks naturally wean off them around 3-4 weeks old.
I’ve built one of these and it’s just too small for a bigger flock. I had 3 bantams (2 hens and a roo) in mine and that’s the max I would keep in one - even 2 full size chickens is pushing it IMO.
For 7 large fowl birds you need about 35sq.ft of coop space and 70 sq.ft. of run... with this...
The one that I'm currently building (about halfway through that process now) will be covered for shade... we've had uncovered runs in the past and a run covered in netting and neither were much of a deterrent to predators (the netting doesn't take much to deteriorate to the point of not being...
I'm so excited I get to join the May hatch along. Earlier today I picked up 9 lavender (self-blue) ameraucana bantam hatching eggs, and I'm super excited about those, I'm going to be a nervous wreck for 3 weeks waiting on them to develop/hatch!
Most likely... I actually got a self blue OEGB in my assortment as well. I initially thought the feather footed self blue could be a d'Uccle but then it started to get feathers, but now definitely not :)
@Abby1116 not all of them do... "hatchery quality" is a thing for a reason :) One of my EE bantams has no cheeks/beard.
I also ended up with a really poor quality silkie in my "assorted bantams" - it has no crest, no beard, and it only has 4 toes! 🤔 Funny thing is, it's a self blue... so it's...
