Thanks for the reply. We have a solid black hen as well, since all 3 come together I figured they were a cross of some kind. They lay regularly so I’m not complaining just curious.
Thank you. We have 13 hens which are (3) Americana, (3 Gold, 1 Silver) Wyandotte, (3) Barred Rocks, (1) Copper Maran, (3) smaller hens that I haven’t identified yet. And some chicks that will be 3 months pretty soon.
I apologize. The thread wasn’t updated when I posted that and I see it was already addressed. The one rooster that did give us trouble was a mean one lol. One of us boys would have to walk our mom to church and to the car when he was out until he cut up my dads leg and then he made the dumpling pot.
You’re correct. Last count I remember was 60+ free range birds. We never had vaccines or any major illnesses, just eggs everyday, chicken for dumplings and the occasional chicken/rat snake, skunk, opossum, coon and bobcat which our fox terrier usually took care of.
Yes, especially with the prices of lumber now. Everything but the wire, post, headers and the back wall is new plywood as I was going to add doors for the nesting boxes but my wife enjoys going inside to check on the chickens as well so no doors as of yet.
So here’s our new coop(121sq.ft.) we completed last week. Most of the material is reclaimed from a coop I helped my grandpa build over 20yrs. ago including the door and hinges. Currently working on our 500sq. foot run that will be used if we’re planning on being gone for a day or so. Also a few...
