Hello fellow Granite stater! Im in cheshire county down by the VT border. Also Im with you! I can already tell the chickens are gonna be a gateway to all sorts of farm animals in my future as well haha luckily I have a decent amount of land and very few neighbors 😂
My spaghetti squash plants went nuts this year so I've been eating various versions of it all week 😂 tonight im making steak fajita stuffed spaghetti squash with guac and beans on the side.
Hi fellow New Englander! 🍁 Im in NH and this is my first year having my own chickens too! But I've been around them and on farms for years. Learning so much from this forum and I've also only been a member for a few days! (Was lurking in the forums as a non member for months though haha)
Thanks! Right now 3 of them are 2 weeks old and 8 of them are 1 week old. I dont have electricity out at the coop/run for the brooder and its below freezing here at night already so they'll be inside but with plenty of leaves and sod plugs in their brooder to scratch around in and then in...
The screenshot stats are from it being empty, the chicks are inside my house in their brooder its my first batch. They'll be going outside the weekend of Thanksgiving.
Also thank you! So it sounds like if internal humidity is more or less same as ambient then they'll probably be fine? Even if...
Hi all!
I live in northern New England so winters here are snowy and cold. My coop/run combo is wrapped in the winter with ventilation up top. I have a hydrogrometer and thermometer set up in the coop/run that I can check from my phone. Current October stats below so you can compare the...
I went to culinary school and was an executive chef for over a decade before I got myself a boring office job so I'm right there with you on using everything! The feet are best for soup and stocks for sure!
And thank you for all the information! Sounds like slow and low is the way to go with...
Thanks! And yeah not much inside it right now but I know when I was looking at reviews for the kit I wish I had been able to see what the inside would look like! I need to scavenge around the yard for a good stump and maybe a big branch or two as well for them to play on!
What a cutie!!!! If cinnamon ends up being a roo I wouldn't be heart broken since a blue egg roo means more blue egg hens but hoping shes just a porker haha!
What would you say is the meat quality from that age? Is it like soup only tough or still ok for general use? Also do you find this changes based on breed if they aren't really dual purpose breeds? Thanks!
Look how cute 😭 I wish it was light enough in their brooder room at night for the camera to not be infrared black and white haha! Just a puddle of babies!
Yeah their feeder is always in there and kept full, you're probably right she may just be fluffier with a full crop. Curious to see if anyone chimes in on weight milestones though more out of curiosity of how quickly they gain weight as they age and feather out. Thanks!
Hi all!
I have 11 chicks one of which is the Cream legbar (cinnamon) pictured here.(sorry its black and white its from my camera in their brooder) 3 of the chicks including cinnamon are 12 days old and the other 8 are 4 days old she is the only cream legbar. Kind of a silly question but I...
