    feeding un-ripe apples and pears

Thank you Jenn-e! That is what they are...past their prime. I may have a few strawberries making their way out to the coop too. Do I need to offer grit if they have a large dirt run?

What about giving them apples that didn't get eaten? They are not "bad" but have softened (yellow delicious). THanks.

Thanks UGCM. I think I will wait. They seem very happy with their chick starter & are growing well.

Thank you both. I wasn't planning on "making" the oatmeal...just adding the oats raw into the feed. I will wait though...need to get grit first.

NEWBIE QUESTION...Can I feed oatmeal to my 2 week old chicks?

Should I mix it into their chick starter? Is the old fashioned oats okay to use? Do they need grit for that? Thanks for your help.

New to chickens? how many are you starting with?

Quote: LOL! I think you're right! We plan on getting meaties too. I should have been a little clearer...6 feet of that 20 foot building will be a supply area. So, really the coop area will be 8x14...supply area 8x6.

OH MY GOSH! We have that EXACT same play/swing set! Never thought about using it as a coop. Shhhhh...don't tell the hubby that the 8x20 coop he's building could have been avoided. LOL! Maybe when the boys get done with it we can turn ours into a rabbit house. My 10 year old is pushing for...

Brand new chick family...can you tell us what breeds we have?

Well, I picked DS up from school & kept the "bring home" box in the house all day to keep it warmish. We are only a 5 minute drive from school. They were under the heat light not too long after. I was worried the garage would be too cold last night but we went out every hour & they were fine &...

Brand new chick family...can you tell us what breeds we have?

Well, Whisper passed on. My boys were crushed. We had a little funeral for her in the backyard & place a big rock over her site so DS10 can go talk to her. His choice. Man...this is going to be hard. You get so attached in just a little bit of time to those fluff balls. Thanks again for...
