One of my chooks has recently stopped eating, has become more timid and lethargic and her feet seem to be having trouble walking/curling up when she sits down. I have brought food and water to her, but she doesn't eat or drink. I am unsure how old she is, as we adopted her from a friend. She was...
Thank you so much for your answer! That was incredibly in-depth, I will try isolating the bully for a little while and then re-introduce her to the flock. Hopefully this will stop her from picking on her new target. Thank you all for your help.
I hadn't checked for the specific amounts on the bag/or even if the bag listed them, but the product's website said this: "Red Hen 17 is a premium layer food, crafted for all breeds of laying poultry. This diet is nutritionally balanced to deliver all essential nutrients necessary for high rates...
Thank you all so much for your advice! We currently feed them a grain mix specifically for chickens from a local produce store, and with their living arrangements, they have a general coop that is about 15m long and 5m wide (this is an estimate as I do not know the actual measurements), and a...
There are 9 chickens in the flock, and the one that has been bullying was introduced a year ago, and the one she has been bullying was raised from a chick 2 years ago. I suspect you may be right saying that the chicken was aware of sickness, as I had earlier suspected the chook that died may...
I recently lost a very small chook (probably the runt of the group) and I wasn't entirely sure what had occurred, but now I think that one of my hens who has become quite a bully may have been responsible in this and I had noticed her attacking the runt. Today, I noticed that another smaller...
Hi everyone! Sorry for the late update - he's doing much much better! Can eat all on his own and is hanging out with the other geese going about his usual activities. He seems a little bit shy still, but is happy to eat from the hand :)
He is still having trouble getting used to eating I think, as he has lost a lot of weight. I have had to syringe feed him to make sure he eats, taking him to the vet today.
He put his beak under a different fence and the dog got him. I haven't let the neighbours know. I just tried to give him the soupy food and he tried to take a bite then shook and opened his beak, as if he were in pain. I've put water and food for him to access at all times but it doesn't look...
These are the best photos I could get (they show the worse side of the damage). He's still quite skittish and doesn't like it when I get too close, so taking photos was a bit difficult.
My goose was attacked by the neighbours dog today and lost about 1.5cm of beak. I have put antiseptic on the beak, and washed it out (it was bleeding quite a lot). The vet that deals with geese is not working right now, or probably for at least a couple of more days. What should I do? Do beaks...
