Interesting - my khakis seem to be my healthiest ducks thus far (knock on wood). I love the look of my Welsh ducks, but have had nothing but problems. My other welsh has had leg problems that took months to fix.
I ordered enrofloxacin, but it has not arrived yet (expected tomorrow), but not sure if that will help at that point. She is not doing well this afternoon so I am just working to make her comfortable and letting her sleep. It’s sad and she’s the first duck I’ve had issues with, but I feel like I...
I was wondering about a potential tumor as well. I don’t really want to cull her at this point, she’s still eating and enjoys attention/pets. Since the prolapse (or tumor, who knows) doesn’t go in and causes her pain if I try, I might just stop trying to force it and just leave it out.
Well it’s been a little over a week and your suggestions worked great and she was doing fabulous - no prolapse issues at all! Until yesterday when she decided to do this…i applied prep h/antibitotic, etc and it’s MUCH harder to reinsert and I can see it’s causing her pain. She has been eating...
Thank you, I went and purchased the ointments. After soaking her today I noticed some of the yellow stuff is loose and coming off with pink tissue underneath
Doesn’t really smell (even though it seems to be turning more yellow). Eating/drinking the same as usual. How is vent gleet treated? I cannot find much information regarding ducks for this
Thanks for the picture, that is good to know! I’ve attached pictures from this morning. She layed another egg and is in good spirits. I am wondering if it is a prolapse at all? I can’t really see it unless I part her feathers, it isn’t visible when she is walking about. It seems to be yellowish...
It is kinda squishy, except there is a whiteish part that feels rough like sandpaper. I will try to get updated pictures sometime tomorrow. It slides back in easily and stays (usually until she poops), and one edge of the mass seems to be attached to the top of her vent lip
That’s what I’m starting to question, she’s acting perfectly normal and still laying eggs? I would’ve thought a prolapse would get worse/larger if an egg was layed?
I noticed what appears to be a prolapse with my Female Welshe Harlequinn yesterday (first picture). I was able to re insert it, but every time she poops it comes back out, although not visible unless I flip her and check. It is about the size of a nickel. She layed an egg this morning, but...
We have a large concrete slab and the location would be great for our duck coop and run (we have 6 ducks). I know concrete is bad for their feet, but is there any type of mat or base layer we could put down so we can have the run and coop on top of the concrete? Or would finding a grass area be...
