    Canadian Connection?

Performance Poultry is in Ontario. Sometimes he takes a while to respond but he was very helpful when he did.

    Are those spurs?

I don't know if its a roo or not but I thought I'd let you know that my hens (over a year old so definitely hens) have bumps like that.

2 week old chick from Ideal - not a Holland so what is it?

I think it is a cockerel, whatever it is, look at the size of those shanks! It looks like it has golden coloring coming in, right? And a single comb? The legs look more pinkish than yellow too? Hmm. I will have to go pull out the books before I guess a breed. Yep, golden/light brown colour...

Thought this was a cuckoo maran....Anyone know what it really is?

I don't see any Marans on her page but does she have a line with feathered legs? I believe European standards for Marans include feathered legs.

2 week old chick from Ideal - not a Holland so what is it?

I know/am pretty sure it isn't a barred anything as barred pattern chicks usually have black down and this chick was mostly yellow/brown with grey-ish brown on top. Last night I looked through the standard size breeds that Ideal offers and compared them with chick pictures on feathersite.com...

2 week old chick from Ideal - not a Holland so what is it?

I have two new chicks originally from Ideal that are supposed to be female. They are 2 weeks old - one is a Welsummer and the other was supposed to be a barred holland. I don't think it is a barred anything and I'm thinking that its a roo. It has a single comb with a larger notch in it, big...

Chickens really loud in morning - would remote citronella spray help?

Wow, my chickens are definitely louder than people talking Akane and I only have 2 hens. blbgp - I assume you are thinking of something like the dog training/bark collars that spray citronella but I don't think that would work with chickens. The spray wouldn't be right in front of your...

    Coop DISASTER

Quote: I think many of you missed the part about already having a plan! I know it's frustrating when plans change unexpectedly but WoodlandWoman makes some very good points in her comments I hope you get the coop sorted out soon and hopefully you and your husband can work things out quickly.

    Roost question

I'm no expert but here's what I've learned: - 2x4's with the 4" side up make good roosts - Depending on breed of chicken I think you need 10-12" or roost space per bird - Some put roosts at the same height to avoid pecking order squabbles, others use a ladder style without problems - use what...

Pictures of Holland chicks? Or supposed to be Holland chicks?

Does anyone have pictures of their Barred Holland chicks or chicks that were supposed to be Barred Holland? I've seen the picture on feathersite but mine doesn't look like that. I assume mine isn't a Holland but perhaps it is hatchery stock (mine) vs. breeder stock? Anyway, pics of chicks and...

How to switch to a nipple waterer?

Thanks for the tips everyone. I will give it another try with my hens and if not I'll just wait until the chicks are grown and moved in.

How to switch to a nipple waterer?

Does anyone have any tips to get year old chickens to drink out of nipple waterers? I tapped the red part and they came over, watched, pecked, and eventually drank out of it. I thought that was it but then it didn't seem like they were going through enough water - way less than a liter for one...

Crossed beak not putting on wt. @ same rate. *New Pics*

If you search for "crossed beak" you'll probably find a lot of information. I haven't had a crossed beak chicken but from what I've read their feed has to be deeper so that they can get it into their beak. Or you could try feeding it separately from the other chicks - make a sort of liquid-y...
