Can I cut antibiotics course short?

Thank you for the detailed response. She got drained again because of laboured breathing, she was doing really well after her first draining. She's eating well and has lots of energy. The tablets are HUGE (which I wasn't expecting) so I tried hiding it in some food but that proved to be tricky...

Can I cut antibiotics course short?

Thank you for this, the exact reason for the antibiotics was unclear so I'm going to call the vet tomorrow to ascertain and get their advice. I fear that as a vet they will have to tell me I have to finish the course no matter what! But I do think it was more of a preventative measure from the...

Can I cut antibiotics course short?

Hi all My girl has very sadly got water belly and I know I only have a finite amount of time left with her, but I have been getting her drained to extend her life. She was drained for the first time a month ago, and just got her second drainage today. It's really unfortunate timing as I have a...

    Hen breathing strange

I took her to the vet today, they said her lungs are definitely raspy but in every other way she was perfectly healthy. Good weight, strong heartbeat, slightly high temp but we are having a heatwave here. They gave her some antibiotics and painkillers. How can I drain the water belly? Is it...

    Hen breathing strange

She 4.5 years old and is normally a regular layer but hasn't laid in about a month, she does sometimes go for some time without laying, in times of stress or extreme weather. Her crop last night was a little puffy or like squidgy I think, and this morning it is empty. Her lower belly doesn't...

    Hen breathing strange

I don't know how to attach the video, so I have linked to a reddit post I made which has the video, I hope that's allowed! I first noticed 2 days ago that my hen had slightly heavy, laboured breathing, you can see it in the way her whole body moves when she breathes, but her mouth is closed...

    Weird substance found on egg

Thank you this is really helpful! I didn’t see any shell residue in the nest so I didn’t automatically think it was from a broken egg, and wondered if it was some sort of substance that came out after she laid that one.. but I will definitely be picking up some oyster shell for good measure!

    Weird substance found on egg

Hi everyone, I got home from work today to find this weird substance on one of my girls’ eggs. It’s the colour of yolk but more transparent but it has the consistency of the bit that surrounds the yolk when you crack it (don’t know the name of that!). It’s not very liquidy and sticks to the egg...

Small amount of dark red in poop - Coccidiosis?

That is a big relief thank you so much. I think I may be overdoing it with the treats so I will cut back a bit!

Small amount of dark red in poop - Coccidiosis?

That’s a relief - thank you! I do, I feed them a lot of random bits and bobs, but always after googling if it is safe for them to eat. This can include my own meal leftovers, again so long as there is absolutely nothing even remotely harmful in there!

Small amount of dark red in poop - Coccidiosis?

Hi everyone! By way of introduction- I am a long time lurker but first time poster! My girls are nearly 2 years old and they are my babies, I hatched them from an incubator by myself. I am a complete and total helicopter mummy and am devoted to my 3 beautiful girls. The issue at hand: When...
