My name is Elsie. I love God with all my heart. He created all things and upholds them by the word of His power (John 1:3, Hebrews 1:3). Mankind rebelled against God and surpresses the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18-21). We are fallen in sin and deserve just punishment in Hell (Romans 5:12, 6:23). God sent His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to save His people from their sins (Isaiah 53, 1 Peter 2:24, Romans 5:8). He died on the cross to save me -- an undeserving sinner. He washed my dirty heart clean by the blood of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19). He has carried my sins as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). Christ victoriously rose from the dead, conquering sin and death. He now sits gloriously enthroned in Heaven. I give thanks to Him for His goodness and mercy. I will forever praise His name.
"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for
the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit." - 1 Peter 3:18

𝔅𝔲𝔣𝔣 𝔒𝔯𝔭𝔦𝔫𝔤𝔱𝔬𝔫𝔰: ❦ Sadie ❦ Maisie ❦ Leeli (7/19/23-4/9/24) I'll always miss you, my girl.
I was homeschooled. I thank God that he gave me such wonderful parents. Everything they do is grounded in Scripture. I love learning about all the wonderful things our Lord masterfully created.
My favorite subject in school was History. I don't learn it just to memorize dates or names. I want to learn from the people that went before us. I want to recognize the good things people did, and build off their shoulders. I also want to recognize the mistakes they made, so I can learn not to make the same choices they did. My favorite history teachers are: Dr. George Grant, Dr. James White, & Bruce Gore.
I also loved learning about Astronomy. Seeing all the beautiful stars and planets that God created ex nihilo (out of nothing) takes my breath away. Dr. Jason Lisle is a wonderful person to learn from.
I am an abolitionist. That means I want to see the end of all abortion everywhere. The blood of over 66 million innocent children drips off the hands of our nation. Nearly 1.7 billion recorded babies have been brutally murdered since 1980 worldwide. Let those numbers sink in. If you count all the American deaths from every war we fought in, a total of 1.1 million Americans died.
This is only counting surgical abortions; we haven't even touched the surface of chemical abortions yet. If you want to learn more about what I believe or how to help end this atrocity, check out endabortionnow.com

I have wanted to get birds for most of my life. At first it was quail. Later on, we decided to try raising chickens instead. It wasn't possible to care for them until last year. Sure we could've slapped something together, but we wanted to actually do a good job of caring for our little animals the right way.
We built our coop on a concrete slab at the back of our property for security. The slab was overgrown: several inches to a foot of dirt, enormous vines that could've counted as trees, several fallen trees, and countless rocks.
In all we disposed of over 2,000 lbs of debris. That doesn't include the dirt that we removed and used for two raised garden beds we built, or the rocks that we moved elsewhere. It took a long time, and we needed to take breaks when the weather was hot. Slowly but surely, we cleared it off.
Next we needed to tear down an old shed on the property. It was right where we wanted the aviary to be. We saved any wood that was salvageable for building the coop.
Finally, after a long time and a lot of hard work, we got to start building the coop. This was also very hard -- especially in the heat of the summer. We planned, built, sanded, and painted.
When we got close enough to the finish line, we went ahead and ordered ten chicks! I still remember sitting at the computer as we made the purchase. I literally couldn't believe we were actually going to raise chickens! They hatched on July 19th, 2023 and arrived two days later. They sent us twelve chicks and every one survived! We have three Buff Orpingtons, three Lavender Orpingtons, three Salmon Faverolles, and three Speckled Sussex (one is a rooster).
They absolutely love hugs. They run to us whenever they hear our voices. My favorite hen, Sadie, cries if I don't sweep her into my arms the instant I walk into the run or aviary. If I sit down out there, I'm sure to stay at least another thirty minutes because several hens will have fallen asleep on my lap.
I am incredibly blessed by God. I have a wonderful family, a safe home, a solid church, cuddly chickens, a sweet dog, home cooked meals, and a large yard to tend a garden. All these things I did not deserve, but the Lord graciously gave me. I want everything I set my hand to do to be glorifying to my Savior.
"Through all the chaos and noise I've learned to silence the world and listen. Still I'm singing of how great You are. For surely You went before the Son. When safeguards turn captors, the haven never been seen so clearly. My Constant delivers. All the surety that He hears me. How can I repay You Lord for this all-forgiving love? For it's the sight of Christ upon the tree that surely will always still and humble me."

I got chickens back in July of 2023. Ever since then, I have searched around threads on BYC looking for information that would help me take care of my chickens. I wanted to be a part of the community.
