I discovered this damaged egg in a sitting hens nest. It was 4 days till hatch day. The membrane was not damaged and no liquid leaking, but as you can see from picture the shell is very damaged. It is a wheaten Maran egg, I tried candling for movement, but cannot make out anything other than air...
Hey everyone, thanks so much for insight. I bought the fertilized eggs from a chicken breeder. My interest is in a colorful egg basket. The olive egger I got from her last Spring ended up laying the prettiest color. She also has been working on a line that lays light green with brown speckles...
We hatched 7 chicks on Halloween. This is the only chick who’s gender has not been determined. Has no raised comb or visible wattles. No tail feathers yet, dainty legs. It does have the rust coloring on chest and shoulders which screams cockerel to me. I’d love to hear what you think.
Thank you so much for your reply! I am attaching pictures of the rooster, hen and the chick. The chick appears black on its back, grey on chest, yello on belly and has brown on wings. Chick is 10 days old. I’d love to hear any thoughts you have. Thank you!
what should I expect from a blue copper maran hen crossed to wheaten maran rooster? If anyone has any of this cross I’d love to see pictures. My sitting maran just hatched some and I have no idea what to expect! Thank you so much!
I have ended up with 4 roosters in my flock of 12 and as they are approaching 7 months old, things are starting to get hostile. I have a olive egger rooster and a EE rooster who are free. Located in Rogersville, Tn.
Mystery blue Orpington update. Still no crowing or eggs. Have caught rooster mounting him/her 2 times. Does not act roosterish at all but is so big in size. 23 weeks old.
Well it came from a bin at Co-op so you never know. I’m going to post a photo beside another chicken to give an idea of size....it’s long legged and tall!
Honestly, they just look so weird. Not as pointy as the other roos, but not really female either. What leans me more toward cockerel is its size. This bird is taller than my rooster that is 2 months older than it.
