Last week my one Khaki Campbell hatched seven ducklings. Unfortunately they've been getting picked off one by one during the day (I keep the in the coop at night so it's not happening then). I suspect hawks, although I know their predators are many. Yesterday morning I decided to bring the...
Back to provide some updates on our little Khaki Campbell that showed up back in May. Her name is Kris (the kids wanted to pick a gender neutral name since they didn't want to properly sex her). When I first introduced her to the flock, the other ducks were so scared of her - she just ran and...
Ok - a little late but I have some updates. Shortly after the first female started disappearing, the other two females started disappearing as well - to the point that at night the coop was a bachelor pad! I could see the males hanging out at the edge of the field during the day, and every few...
We have 6 Khakis that are over a year old and over the past four days one of my females is gone most of the time. What I mean by most of the time is that we saw her one morning hanging out by the coop before I let the others out. That day after work she was gone again. We do have an overgrown...
The reason why the TupperWare container came into play was that this duckling was so early and I didn't want it to interfere with the other eggs. Also - note that according to the thermometer - the termperature never exceeded 99.5 - so I don't think this is the reason for the early hatching...
This is all happening too fast. We just had one duckling hatch three days early and are not sure what to do (this is our first time and we are not quite ready for this). Do we take it out and put it in the brooder? Leave it in the incubator for a while (how long)? If we do leave it in the...
Miss Lydia - thank you very much for your reply.
They stayed down at the creek all night and were still there in the morning. When I came home from work, they (all six of them) had already let themselves into their pen. All safe and sound now.
I have 6 Khakis and every day the same routine - let them out at 7am and they head about 400 feet down to the (up to 3' deep) creek (usually flying the whole way). Between 3pm and 5pm the come back up to the house, forage in the yard, eat their food, and drink their water - every once in a while...
I have six Khaki Campbells and they have just reached that age! Three are drakes and three are ducks.
1. Will they always exhibit this aggressive behavior?
2. Should I consider finding another home for two of the drakes?
3. Assuming it is recommended to find a home for two of the drakes...
Thank you very much for your prompt reply. The first wrap was done tonight. A lot of squawking and some squirming. We got about 8 minutes in. We had some sliced grapes on a plate - halfway through the treatment he gobbled them down. Good quality time - I enjoyed it.
About the Traumeel, is...
I have a three month old Khaki Campbell that is limping pretty badly. I thought I noticed a slight limp a few weeks ago, and one of the ducks falling down sometimes when running (may or may not have been the same duck). But starting yesterday, the limp is quite bad. When we look at the bad...
