We have this coop- my husband built it as a surprise and didn't get my input, which is good and bad. I definitely have some frostbite this winter as a result. I will be adding additional ventilation come better weather. Otherwise it is a decent coop.
So I am up to 8 chicks from 2-5 weeks old. Two Legbars, three marans (blue and black) and three tolbunt polish. I have cobbled together a brooder from two large cardboard boxes that fit on the workbench since my husband doesn't like the pool from last year which takes up a lot of floor space...
He has progressed to the gargling stage. His brother isn't making any noise yet, and I have an almost 8 month old cockerel- he of the hawk attack and funny feathers, who still isn't making noise either. Of course, that one is in with the mature Orpington boy which may be inhibiting him some.
ha see I am on 35 acres and the coop is at least 2 from the house. if the windows are open in summer i can hear them otherwise, nothing. I would definitely be worried if I was in your setup!
so I have 5 5 1/2 month old Cochins- 3 girls 2 boys. last night one of my boys started finding his voice- not sure if its Big Blue or Buster, but is there anything more amusing than a cockerel learning to crow?
so my first chicks of 2019 were picked up Saturday- two Cream Legbars. I feel the need for more blue eggs. It took until last night for my husband to notice them in the garage;) My daughter was all concerned Daddy would be upset, but he just rolled his eyes at me.
I don't think he counted...
We are picking up the first chicks of 2019 on Saturday! I can’t wait! I am hoping by adding in twos or threes we can keep the brooder off the garage floor and thus stay in hubby’s good graces.
Simla Meat Locker. I have been told they have a several week waiting time, but that was in the fall, so they may be shorter scheduled now, especially for small orders. My co-worker uses them for his meat birds.
