I had a Chicken Hawk antagonize my flock almost daily. The wifey or myself would run outside to scare it off. It rarely worked really. The only effective solution... let my big broody Marans momma hen get in a tussle with the hawk. Sweetie Hen won and we didn't see that hawk again. We had...
I'm so glad cooler weather is here. For where I live in Texas, that's anything below 90 degrees!
I have lost some birds over the last year, hatched some birds, and am currently building a new coop. Couple that with my 3000sq.ft. of gardens, 2 dogs, 2 kids, full time job and being in school...
Also not too many people actually have these birds. Maybe this thread should be renamed "Dark Chickens, including but not limited to Ayam Cemani-like breeds". :D
I have a Black Ameraucana with that green/purple sheen to her feathers, and she has dark slate legs.... really pretty bird. Those birds Toni-Marie posted are absolutely gorgeous! I hope to be able to afford some hatching eggs one day! I'm in Texas, but I think the drive would be well worth...
I tried hatching some Rhodebar eggs without any success. This isn't my first time incubating eggs, but I'm going to take a rest. I stay very frustrated at Austin USPS. If you want to test how well your eggs are packaged, send them thru Austin, TX. If they survive that, they'll survive...
Ok... Guess its Phil then..... bummer. Was really hoping for a Cuckoo hen. I have another question: Why does Phil not look like his brothers (supposedly from the same pen)? Its almost like a double barring or whatever its called. He just looks completely different....
Thoughts on that...
This is Phyllis. She's a 16-week old Cuckoo Marans. She was one of three CM that hatched. The other two were definitely boys. I gave the two CM roos away to a friend. They started crowing around 10 weeks of age. Phyllis was dark and never had much of the Cuckoo barring, and was very quiet...
I'm no expert on gardening....
I get plastic rolls at Sherwin Williams. I think its .3mil. Not sure exactly. A little bit thicker, but its that milky white almost see-thru stuff. Fairly inexpensive.
I'm near Austin, Tx and I start my gardens from seed. I usually start my seeds indoors...
Guess Google came thru:

I wonder how Greenfire got their birds thru. Maybe they got in a small window or did extra quarantine? Amazing stuff, IMO...
His website shows the shipping price to the US... Has anyone done this or know how that works? Ordering from him would only be slightly cheaper than ordering a young pair from Greenfire, but what are the import rules. Obviously it can be done, Greenfire having done it, and others. Is there a...
