hi BYC its day 21 tomorrow. The last 3 days my broody has kicked out 4 eggs. 2 were today. She started with 10 and now has 3.
I'm lead to belie that she will do this to the eggs she senses are bad, but is it more likely that she will do this at such a late date?
This was collected may 17th. Sorry it's a bad picture but it was broken inside when I cracked the shell.
All I can think of is that maybe she (sapphire) had kicked the offensive eggs from her nest and they had gotten mixed up with the fresh eggs. I've just seen Rita (another hen) sat right up...
Thanks for that. It looked like number 5 on the first pic. Yea I have Bruno! I do have a hen sitting on a nest and 3 weeks ago she scattered her first cluster but that was before 16th.
I'm at work tonight so I'll crack some tomorrow and take pics. Would it be possible that it's because my shed...
I will crack one tomorrow and post a pic. They were about the size of 2 nail heads together. I will crack a few from different days and see results. I'm just overwhelmed as they were ready to sold as eating eggs!
Thank you for reading and replying
Hi guys,
Had a shock. I went to get 3 eggs from the shed for a cake, only to find they have embryos in!
They were all laid and collected on May 16 and were stored straight away in my shed.
Can anyone help and think of an explanation
Thanks
Ben.
Thanks Barbara. I'm lucky enough to have my own supply of fertile eggs. I've managed to remove the old eggs, one explodes all over me and my shed and I've never felt so traumatised and dirty in all my life! Another dropped and had an embryo in. It looked like it was around 7 days which would...
Hi everyone.
Can anyone tell me how long it is safe for my hen to be broody for? She's sat on a cluster of eggs for 25 days now, obviously they will not hatch (at day 7, another hen scattered them and they were cold over night. Next day she collected them back up and sat on them again) I'm...
I've had to move her and the eggs this evening under advice. She was in the main coop which is 2 ft high and shared with the others. She payed straight back onto them but when I secured her new house, I heard her moving around, I suppose I will just have to leave it up to nature tonight and see...
Thankyou all! My surprise was that Mrs Hen turned into Mr Cock and I've got a broody girl currently sitting on a nest, she's in the main coop so I will be moving her and the eggs tonight
