Raising Heritage Turkeys for Meat and Eggs

A true midget white tom at maturity should top put at around 13lbs. Hens will be slightly less. I selected this breed because they will still fit in my chicken plucker. The most common error is not selecting for smaller size. Hatcheries are an unreliable source for midget whites. You're...

    Rehabilitating a Rooster

Like any other non approved med for poultry. Trial and error. Thats how i came up with 0.2ml every other day. That and see the screen shot attached. Additionally since chickens are capable of cochlear hair regeneration when damaged from ototoxins or loud noises any gentamicin damage to...

    Rehabilitating a Rooster

Nope. Not cost effective nor timely enough for my needs. I own the machinery that created the bird im trying to save. It's cheaper to make another one or perhaps a better one from that machine or save it with coventional or unconventional meds. I have absolutely no emotional attachment to...

    Rehabilitating a Rooster

Im providing my experience with these drugs not book references. If we are going by the book then we shouldn't even discuss using ivermectin as a wormer since it's not labelled for poultry. Gentamicin is an aggressive antibiotic and any med you can also be fatal if given to in excess...

    Sulfa question

I always thought coccidious was part of normal gut bugs. I was under the impression that coccidious was the result of a weakened immune system or the introduction of the bird to a different environment with a strain the bird had been not exposed too. I thought any treatment for coccidious was...

    Rehabilitating a Rooster

Correct intramuscular. I use an insulin syringe with a 5/8 needle. Insert at an angle into the breast. I raise heritage large fowl cornish. They have tremendous breast muscle so the chances are slim that i would ever get into the chest cavity. As soon as any of my birds develop a rattle...

    Rehabilitating a Rooster

@ColtHandorf My birds have responded very nicely to Gentamicin when they are showing respiratory distress but like most antibiotics you can only obtain it by prescription. 0.2ml every other day IM for a week. Walmart shows it available without prescription. About $30. Baytril is even...

    Heritage large fowl white cornish

Just showing some of my show cornish. Needs refinement on the wattles and shorter beak. A base wide enough to drive a truck through. Decent beak still need refinement on the wattles. This year's cockerel. Needs the wide base of the second one and the first one needs his wattles and beak...

    Rehabilitating a Rooster

How big is your flock - number of hens? How big is the coop/run? For 4 roosters/cockerels it wouldn't be out of the question to have at least 50 hens so each can have a decent harem and minimize competition for breeding rights. If this rooster does recover he is no longer part of the flock...

    Sulfa question

    Why not just use Corrid?

How can i tie up my chicken?

I would use det cord around his neck.

Which to treat first? Splay, or curled toes?

Honestly i would just cull it. Most likely its a result from remaining in the egg too long after pipping. Or it could be genetic. If this is your first hatch out of more hatches to follow I wouldn't take the time to mess around with it.
