Thanks guys, I went ahead and moved to the brooder! There are two other eggs in the incubator that haven’t externally pipped. I know it can take a little extra time, but I’m starting to wonder if this chick will be a singleton.
Hi there. This is my first time hatching and this chick has been out of the egg for at least 7 hours. She has black feathering and skin so its tough for me to tell if she is completely dry. Her back looks like it could be fluffier, but what are everyone’s thoughts? She is active but falls asleep...
I just double checked those eggs and I agree with you, I am thinking they died not long ago because the webbing of veins I see in the other ones has really receded. Thanks for your help.
It does have veins. I have seen all of these embros move before. Its just weird that I didn’t see movement today. Does that always mean the chick has died?
I just candled my eggs which are on day 14 today. The two eggs pictured do not show any movement. The other eggs did show movement but it took a bit for some of them. What are your thoughts on these eggs? I left them in the incubator for now. Thank you!
Thanks everybody, this is great info! I went ahead and bought a styrofoam cooler to keep the eggs in. Even with just a large ziplock bag of frozen water the cooler is down to 66, even with it being 80 in the room!
I am planning on crossing my silkie roo to my Andalusian hen for some beautiful babies and started storing eggs to incubate! Multiple sources are saying its important to keep the temp low so development doesn’t start. It is hot here and the house has been getting into the low to mid 80’s. I have...
Hello! Long story short but two of my hens live in their own pre fab coop when they are not free ranging due to the rooster bullying them in the main coop. Their “cottage” came with roosts about two inches off the ground so they have both been sleeping in the nest boxes which leads to messy eggs...
This is her though with the Andalusian (all raised together). The Andalusian is his favorite of all the birds and he accepts when she walks away from his breeding attempts.
Hello, I could really use some help here. My pet brood I raised in the house are integrated with the adult flock. As of yesterday, my young silkie roo started crowing. He has started incessantly attacking my sumatra pullet, who he was raised with. The two of them have had a dominance thing since...
That is encouraging. I moved their run outside for most of the day today with max temps in the low 50’s with lots of wind; they are back in the garage overnight. Little man was fine all day and surprised me with how puffy he can get to build insulation. I do think I will pull the girls roost so...
