    Multiple Coops

Yes I have one get large run with two coops but need more space based on alllll the babies. Chicken math became real along with spending the last year deciding which breeds we’d like to keep long term.

    Multiple Coops

We will be building either one more coop or multiple smaller coops. Is there an advantage to building a few smaller units over a single larger coop? The coop can only be so tall based on the netted run height. The run is just shy of 7500 sq ft but the height in some places is only 6ft. We...

Broody abandoned babies. Current mom available

I do I had it all set up as a just in case. They are inside and doing fine. Just would have been easier if that hen did her job.

Broody abandoned babies. Current mom available

I have a hen in her own broody house and mini run within my main run. She has 6 babies currently about 1 week old. My second broody abandoned her one day old clutch of 6. Can I give them to my hen to raise with the first 6 or keep them inside?

BB Red OEGB - What Gender?

That’s what our little cockerel looked like at that age. The male feathers came in at 7ish weeks for ours.

    Lavender Orpington

We are looking to get a few more Lavender Orpingtons this fall or maybe next spring. We have one sweet pullet that came from Meyer Hatchery. I have the option of going back to Meyer or to Mt. Healthy hatchery when I get more. There seems to be a difference in the appearance of the breed from one...

Breed and confirmation on my guess

I have 3 bantams (straight run) in with 4 Olive Egger pullets. They are just over 5 weeks old at this point. I am suspicious one of the bantams is a cockerel. I also don’t know for sure what breeds the bantams are. Any insight would be fabulous.

Is this molting or something else???

That is what a few of my pullets looked like from an aggressive cockerel. Their feathers are growing back in nicely now. The boy has been rehomed to a farm with a much larger flock and other cockerels/roosters now.

Pulled feathers from neck with blood on feeders

this was the other picture I was able to get. She was fine when she went out this morning. I just want to make sure I don’t have mice or lice that may be causing this either.

Pulled feathers from neck with blood on feeders

I’m assuming some of the others started pulling her feathers from her neck but don’t know that for sure. She was fine when let out of the coop this morning and we found her this way tonight when we closed them up. I have about 22 chickens and no clue which one or bunch did it. How do I help her...

    Is this a Cream Legbar

Well that is a fun surprise! The cockerel is a buckeye though.

    Is this a Cream Legbar

I’m wondering if the chicken on the bottom left might be a cream legbar? We originally thought she may be a Welsummer but the coloring seems off and she has an adorable mowhawk. Chip is also a tiny pullet so far.

    Baby Buckeye rooster or hen

I agree. That looks like a single comb and buckeyes have a pea comb.

Thought she was a clean legged White Maran

I got her in a group of 5 pullets from the rare assortment from Meyers. As a brand new chick she was a dead ringer (I thought anyway) for the White Maran. As she is feathering out I am thrown off because there seem to be grey feathers coming out. Anyone know if this normal for a white Maran...
