    Should I get a goose?

We bought three Embden Geese one gander and tow geese. We were told these geese would protect the chickens. That worked great! But only until they we about 5 months old. They began to run boss over the chickens than frightened the heck out of the chickens. Then they killed one of the 19...

Embden Goose sitting on 12 eggs

Our goose started laying eggs for about two weeks and started sitting on Dec. 9th. She has a huge nest of hay 3 feet wide and 12" deep I am fairly sure nesting in Dec. is not a usual thing. Is there a chance these eggs will hatch? The goose and her other female and male have their own house and...

    Coop for goose

I have three Embden geese two females and one male hatches 4/20.21. Full grown now, so much fun! My goose coop is 8' x 8' and 6' high. But we are thinking maybe little geese will be coming from these geese in spring. From our experience they don't sleep inside the coop yet, but come winter...

how to build on to this coop?

Most all of us has made their share of mistakes when it come to chickens, so don't feel along. Your coop is about maxed out at three chickens, and these prefab sold in stores are quite flimsily at best. I don't know what to tell you without knowing how much $ you have to invest. But a roll of...

    Rooster turned aggressive

Our rooster was 5 months old and raised with the 20 hens as a baby chick. He literally tore the hems back open and was extremely aggressive. He was a Golden Commit. We are looking to replace him as we do want some baby chicks, we have some hens that want to brood.

    Rooster turned aggressive

We have tried and tried to tame our rooster, but he kept being rough on our hens and then he turned on both my wife and me. When he got a hold of me that did it! I shot him in the head twice. I have watched a number of videos and there just is not a good way to make a bad rooster be good.

How big of a pond do I need?

Well a small poor won't do that's for sure! Best to call a hatchery and perhaps they can contact their supplier and they could let you know. Off the top I would say maybe 20 diameter pond.

    What breed/sex are these?

Unless they have the hump on their head its not Chinese, at least that's my understanding. They look like Embden geese to me.

What age can you sex geese by there voice?

There is a very good YouTube video on how to sex a goose. After watching it I felt it was pretty easy to do. You get the catch the goose sit on a chair, turn him upside down his head between your legs. Then you take both hands on either side of his vent about 1& 1/2 inch away from the vent...

    Can somebody expain Diatomaceous Earth?

We have it in a 14" circular 6" deep pan. They "dirt bathe" in it. The D Earth is about 4" deep. They like twisting and taking their bath in it. None of the 21 chickens have mites or other creepy things. We have been doing this for about 6 months now. The chickens are 1 year old now. Be careful...

Store bought coop... I know, bad idea.. too late

Your coop needs to be protected around the bottom. Animals can dig right into your coop. For store bought, it is not bad. The ladder is not good. Chickens need a board with small boards to act as steps Put a board underneath the ladder. The feeder is way too small, as well the water container...

Store bought coop... I know, bad idea.. too late

The best was to assure you have no roos is to buy sexlink chickens. Or buy from a hatchery that sennds what you want. These places that have 'chick days" you are never sure what you got or how long they have been there.
