Our Dutch Bantam is setting and we have plenty of other fertile Dutch eggs we want to slip under her. What's a reasonable limit? I searched but didn't find much but I'm thinking 10 is OK but if we should keep it less we will or if we could add more than 10 it would be nice. Thanks for your help.
We've had our Dutch hens penned up with one rooster for awhile and now we want to breed them to another rooster. How long do the hens need to be seperated from the first rooster before they will be completely infertile from him? Thanks for your advice.
My 13 year old grandson wants to show Japanese at the local fairs and such. He has been advised against using Japanese because of their short legs and associated problems keeping their wings and belly clean but he has his heart set on Japs. We were wondering do any of you raise Japanese on the...
My 80 year old brother in law told me once that back on the farm around 1940 in central Georgia they never refrigerated their eggs. Didn't have a refrigerator and didn't want to use the space in the ice box for eggs. They always used them within a couple of weeks. I asked an expert from the...
Today is day 21 for our 9 Dutch Bantam eggs in our Hova Bator. 2 hatched yesterday evening and are doing well after 24 hours. They are quite active and were actually rolling the other eggs around. About 10:00 this A.M. 2 or 3 more were rocking but after being rolled around for several hours we...
Well we have 2 eggs pipped on day 20, 7 to go. Finally decided to leave the bator alone and hope for the best. Did call GQF to question them about humidity during hatch. They were very helpful on the phone but I was a little surprised that they recommended between 58 and 62 percent.
I'm no expert but I would think the wire floor in the hova bator would help prevent spraddled legs. Everything I've read in the past about that condition cautioned against slippery floors like using slick newspaper. The wire bottom seems like it would help the chicks get a better grip while...
Thanks Roxanne. Mine is also a hova bator, Genesis is the model. After I took out the egg tray I noticed there were 3 additional water trays under it that you couldn't add water to with the turner in place. I added water to these so I'm hoping by the A.M. the humidity will be up at least to 65...
We are incubating for the first time with our new Genesis 1588. We followed the directions and our humidity level ranged from 50-52 percent the first 17 days. Today is day 18 so we added water to the second tray and made sure both trays were full. The humidity only came up to 58 percent...
