Looking to add a Pekin female to my flock. Currently have 1 male and 2 females, looking to add another young female. Would like one between 3-6 months old. Anyone know of a hatchery or a breeder I can find?
Would also be able to pick up from breeders near Lancaster, PA.
Here are updated pictures. They are about a week old now. One of the black ones is quite a bit smaller than the rest. Anyone care the guess breeds? I am almost positive the brown one is a brown leghorn. But the rest have me stumped.
I added three Speckled Sessex chicks to my other 12 chicks on Friday. All my chicks are under two weeks old. One never really looked very good and passed away last night. Now another one is doing the same thing, not eating or drinking, very wobbly, and now just laying there. I tried Electrolyte...
I don’t know if they are bantams or not. I did get some 2 day old Speckled Sussex chicks today and they are smaller than all 5 birds I received in the mail on Wednesday. So I think the mystery bird are standards. The three black ones might be bantams because they do seem more petite than the...
I am thinking the eyeliner one is possible a Brown Leghorn. She’s got the chipmunk stripes down her back and looks like the leghorn chick pictures I’ve found.
Thanks for all the help. This has been quite an adventurous start to my backyard chicken keeping. Talk about Chicken Math! It will be fun to see how they develop!
Yes, and they came with the heat pack. The farm swears they didn’t send the chicks and the black ones are definitely not theirs, since they don’t even raise black chickens.
Regarding sex link, how would I tell if the black ones are sex link and identify them as pullets or cockerels?
I just talked with the Hatchery. They did not send me the chicks. They don’t even raise black chicks on their farm. They told me someone at the post office must have shoved the 5 escaped chicks in the nearest box and it was my ducks! Anyone missing 5 chicks from their order??
Okay, haha! Thank you for the help. For now, I plan to raise them and see what I get. Hens I’ll keep, and roosters, I’ll rehome. Predictions on when I’ll be able to sex them? Maybe I’ll be lucky and get all hens!!
Being very new to this, I am going to ask a stupid question...Are they laying chickens or broilers that get sent? If they are laying breeds, can the roosters still be eaten? I’m not planning to eat them, but I’d like to rehome them somewhere if I can.
