    Eye Injury/Disease?

It's been a while since I've updated, but to be honest not much changed up until now. It stayed pretty much the same for a while (and the lump went away) and then about a week ago it looked like it was getting more cloudy, so I got the Terramycin and used it today. Tomorrow I will use it again...

    Eye Injury/Disease?

Second update for today: I was outside again and she is opening her eye a bit more today, its not constantly open but she blinks it open occasionally. It looks like it might be either puffy or cloudy, but still no pus etc and she is still eating and drinking normally!

    Eye Injury/Disease?

Ok thanks! It doesn't seem like it has gotten any worse today, she is still just as active as the other hens and is eating normally.

    Eye Injury/Disease?

This picture shows part of the swelling next to her comb, but not much of the color. You can see the color next to her comb and the eye better here. Another view of the eye. You can somewhat compare her eyes and each side of her comb here. Just for reference, this is her good eye.

    Eye Injury/Disease?

I went outside to check on my hens today and found one who wouldn't open her eye. I tried to gently open it, and it looks like her eye is still there. There is no pus or cuts or anything like that on the eye, it seems fine besides the fact that it is closed. Above her eye/next to her comb there...

Hen Acting Strange; Standing but Won't Move, Wings Drooping

I haven't been keeping her refridgerated unfortunately, my family wouldn't appreciate that... In that case I will probably just get rid of her, either by burying her or otherwise.

Hen Acting Strange; Standing but Won't Move, Wings Drooping

Quick (and probably strange) question; how long after death can you perform a necropsy on a chicken? She died between 10-20 hours ago (she died while I was sleeping so I don't know exactly when, except that she was cold and stiff by the time I was awake) and now her body smells...

She had been laying for about two months before this. If/when I do a necropsy I will let you all know what happened and possibly post pictures

I think I'd like to find out what she died from, I'll probably look up how to do a necropsy sometime today. I don't know if she was ever egg bound, when I felt inside her there was no blockage as far as I could tell.

She died overnight. I gave her water in a syringe before I went to bed, but it didn't help I guess. There were still no feces this morning when I found her.

Hen Acting Strange; Standing but Won't Move, Wings Drooping

After getting some advice from a neighbor who also has chickens I gave her a warm bath, massaged her behind, and reached in (after I found latex gloves and lubricant, of course). She did let some wet poop out, along with a white/yellow crummy looking liquid, when I was feeling inside for an egg...

Also she hasn't defecated since I brought her inside

Hen Acting Strange; Standing but Won't Move, Wings Drooping

Hm that might be it, I can't tell if she walks strangely though, she hasn't moved more than a few steps. She doesn't have a pale face, and she wasn't going in and out of the coop or even sitting. Is there any way to tell if an egg is close to exiting without going in? I don't think I have latex...

Hen Acting Strange; Standing but Won't Move, Wings Drooping

Second update: her crop is very squishy, it almost feels like it's filled with spit and pebbles. I've brought her inside, she laid down for a few minutes and when I went to check her crop again she stood up. I also noticed that her legs are much paler than my other hens.

Hen Acting Strange; Standing but Won't Move, Wings Drooping

I came home today to one of my RSL hens standing under the coop. She won't move, blinks slowly, her wings are drooping, and her head and tail are low, but she is still standing. I am going to try giving her food and pick her up to feel her crop, but if anyone has any idea what is wrong with her...
