    Coop remodel question

I go in there everyday to clean and restock sometimes while they're on their nests. So, that's good to know if they're ok with that, it should be fine. I am glad to get it done before summer! The new layout will be much better. Thanks for the response!

    Coop remodel question

Hi all, We are planning a remodel of the inside of our coop. New nesting boxes and roosts. This is my 1st little flock with only 4 hens. They have always had the same layout with just some very minor changes. They just started laying again after their winter break and I'm worried about stressing...

Topic of the Week - How much space for your flock?

I have 4 large breed hens & I have a 6' x 11' coop / hen house. They're never locked in there except at night. It's not super cold here in the winter, so except if it rains (they go in there themselves), they're out in the yard. We have a 50' x 25' section of our backyard fenced off for them. I...

What's the temperature where you are???

Folsom, CA here. 45 and sunny now and the forecast says 59 and sunny today. It's been weirdly warm here this winter. A lot of 60 degree days. We are normally in the low 50's this time of year.

    Question about Deworming...

I've used Safeguard in the past and have it on hand. But, I know when they're molting I can't use that. Here in CA we can't buy Valbazen. What are other alternatives? They have a few different kinds of horse dewormers at Tractor Supply, but I really have no idea what I would use. I looked at...

    Chicken with water for poop

I totally understand. That's exactly how I felt. Her crop was squishy, but I could also feel some clumps in it. I fed her the coconut oil in clumps and massaged her crop gently because I read on here that sour crop can make their crops sensitive and painful. I could feel the clumps, so I tried...

    Chicken with water for poop

I had this same problem a couple of years ago. I treated my girl for everything I could think of, so I'm not completely sure what was actually her problem. I really think it was impacted crop that had turned sour. Her watery poop had a really strong smell and had the little green clumps in it...

    Dirty Vent

Thanks for the info. I don't think pecking will be a problem. My little flock is pretty chill. But if it is, what should I do?

    Dirty Vent

Good Morning! I have a girl with a very fluffy butt that sometimes gets pretty poopy and I have to wash it. It's really hard to get all that solid poop off of her without making her skin look irritated even when I soak it. I was reading on here that some people trim the fluff around their vents...

Topic of the Week - Treating Chicken Injuries

I had a very sick girl 9 months after I got my chickens. I'd never had chickens before and I was pretty freaked out. I tried many diff treatments because I didn't have any idea what was wrong with her, so I have a ton of meds on hand. Thank God for this site and the very helpful and...

Can I water glass unwashed eggs that have been refrigerated?

They did turn out fine, except later on (a couple months later) one egg had broken in the water. There was an awful rotten fish smell. I searched and searched on the internet to see if I could save them. I found one woman who just rinsed them off and re-did the lime water and said her eggs were...
