What dewormer should I use? Is it safe to give it to her when she is this sick?
UPDATE: She ate some scratch and drank some, but she has no balance and stays standing huddled or falls down and stays down.
Hi,
Today I noticed one of our hens, a three-year-old mixed-breed, was standing stiffly in the run with all of her feather fluffed up around her, looking for all the world like someone with a cold trying to keep themselves warm. When I picked her up, I noticed that she had lost a lot of weight...
Hi,
We have a three-year old mixed-breed hen, Pippin, who was attacked by the neighbor's dog about three days ago. She had some skin and muscle torn off of the "elbow" of her wing, but was otherwise unharmed. We have kept her inside and alone, and cleaned her wound every day with diluted...
I would recommend latches with carribeaners--simply because that's what we use and we have never had a problem. Simple hooks might be absolutely fine--but as you said, better not to learn the hard way. Furthermore, the satisfying clicking noise they make when you latch then really makes you feel...
Nice set-up! I was at TSC recently, and I saw they had a bin of "red pullets." I'm going to guess that's what you've got...if so, it's a mix of Red Sex-links, New Hampshire Reds, and Rhode Island Reds, I think. You may have been unprepared, but it looks like you sure threw up a coop in a hurry...
If I were you, I would install at least one big window in that coop (perhaps the front, pointed right at us?). Not only will it make it lighter in there, but the chickens will love to look out of it in rainy weather. Plus, if it opened, it would let lots of fresh air in there (when the door's...
I talk to our chickens in Spanish. Mostly just call them "gallinas" (hens). I'm in AP Spanish in high school, got to practice it somewhere!
Who is "chickotay" named after?
Congratulations! And welcome to BYC!
They look like happy little chicks. You'll have lots of fun with them! You should be careful, though...keep letting them free range, and you won't have any of that lovely garden left.
Very nice coop. I'm impressed! It looks so airy and spacious. Do you have to clean all the dirty shavings out through that door? It looks a little small..
I agree with above post. Sun and light in the coop is always good...chickens love the sun and warmth. However, they can really suffer from being overheated. You want to make sure you have plenty of ventilation in your coop to there is always fresh air in there. Heat lamps or a radiance heating...
