I was hoping you would get an answer because mine are the same as yours. They also started at the end of summer. I have treated them and the coop and run 4 times with permethine spray and powder with 10 days between doses. I have checked them over for mites and can't find any. I have now...
In treating for mites, do you think the powder or spray works better? I used poultry dust 7 days ago, it has permethrin in it. TSC also has permethrine spray that can be used on poultry. If I go with the spray how much do you put on them? Putting the powder on them didn't go to bad I just...
Imp--I read the thread and it was great!! Thank you!
Wisher1000--I don't have a rooster so that is what happens. When my husband crack open the first one he was amazed that there could be two yolks.
With a double yolk egg can two chicks develop and survive? I have gotten two of them in three days. Everyone I ask says they don't know and wondered the same thing. Deb
I have 6 RIR and 6 BS. Three of the RIR have chewed feathers where the tail feathers start. I don't see any bugs, but I noticed black spots(1 or two spots) on some of the other birds combs. I have cleaned their coop and applied DE (I have been using DE in their coop from the start). I have...
We are thinking about getting one just to see what is around at night. Any suggestions on what kind to get? I know we have several different kinds of predators around and wonder if they are coming in the yard. Thanks, Deb
I had a friend who fed his chickens cookies that he had gotten and the eggs had a sweet taste to them. When we got our first egg (we are on number 14 now) our granddaughter age 7 ate it and said this is the best egg ever! So I know you can tell a difference from store to fresh eggs. Deb
I got my "chicken grass" from GrowOrganic.com. It is a forage mix that is to increase omega 3 in your eggs. I grow it in containers to put in their run. They LOVE it!! I let them out to free range and they didn't eat the regular grass until they had eaten everything out of the containers I...
I put our skirt out two feet and used landscape staples to hold it down. The grass has grown thru the hardware cloth and you can't even tell it is there. Deb
I used recycling bins from Lowes. They have a lip across the front and are big enough for two of my hens to lay in together. I have RIR and Black Stars.
I have the large dogloo, I bet that would work great for this. My dog was always afraid if it so it has never been used. This way I could get some use out of it. Thanks for the idea! Deb
