Yes, she was definitely my favorite because the others always seemed to shun her. She was the underdog, and yet she always ran up to greet me, and she was the only one who would run up to the fence to greet the dog. She was just a special little spirit.
I wasn't able to do that. She came to us as a chick in July and we've only had a rooster for a few weeks. I have some pics on my phone and will attach a few of my favorites here. We're going to bury her this afternoon and in spring I'm going to plant something beautiful in the spot.
Thanks for your help but I'm sad to report that Brownie died. We managed to get some of the poop to drain, but the smell was horrible. I decided to give her a break from all the poking and prodding for a while. When I came back in just now to check on her, she was laying in the corner of the...
I'm going to give her another bath. When I was picking up the stool softener, I found a nice sized tub to make it easier. I'll give her a good soak after I give her the pill and some more coconut oil. Crossing fingers. I never thought I'd be hoping to see a big pile of chicken poop! hahahahah
I'm so happy she's ok! Yeah, this was one of ten hens raised together. She was always shunned a little and picked on by them because she's very different and was a slow developer. I have her in the house in a dog cage until fully healed and then we will try to modify our coop to be two coops...
Ok, I climbed into the cage with her so I wouldn't have to manhandle her. She let me use the tweezers and I was able to get some blockage and then a stream of horrific smelling nasty yellowishbrown ooze ran out. Kept at it until she wasn't cooperative any more, dabbed it off with warm water and...
Her name is Brownie. :D:D (Real original, I know) because she was the only dark brown chick that came with the bunch. We think she is a rumpless Araucana. We have been treating the wounds with a poultry wound spray and that part is healing nicely. It's just the pooper problem now and the broken...
Thank you! I will try to pull it out. I'm worried about hurting her but i think she needs the help at this point. Doesn't seem like the warm baths helped. Will report back after I get another close look. Hubby isn't here so I've got to deal solo *nervous wreck
