By "throughout the week," I meant symptoms started I think Sunday, peaked Monday, but has improved everyday after. Not sending my kid to the doctor if I'm seeing improvement and he's acting fine otherwise.
It was definitely a mistake to put the brooder in the kitchen in the first place. Chalk...
I don't even know if it is salmonella. Could be something he caught from school. It's just weird that he seems normal except for the diarrhea in the morning. Until recently, the brooder was in the kitchen, about 15 ft from where food prep happens. I did my best to keep the area clean, added an...
I am curious the precautions others take when letting their children handle chickens. I am also a little embarrassed by my situation, so please be kind. I think my 5yo son contracted a minor case of salmonella from the chickens.
This is my first year and I primarily got a few chicks as pets for...
The one time I felt comfortable getting outside for a few minutes, it was a hassle rounding them up one by one. I was only able to transport 3 of them. They are currently in an XL wire dog crate that requires two people to carry and just barely fit through my house doors, so I can't take the...
I'm itching to get them out of my house and into their chicken tractor. We've had a lot of cold, rainy days here in PA, but temps are expecting to go up in the next week with still some rain in the forecast. That being said, I've only brought 3 of the chicks outside briefly in the past week.

They have since lost interest. It only lasted a few minutes but it happens multiple times a day. I moved the mirror to cover up the cardboard hole they were pecking at so maybe that change itself will also keep things a little interesting for them.
I have five 4-week old chicks in an XL wire dog crate turned brooder. The inside walls are mostly lined with cardboard. Recently they started pecking at it. They were going really hard at one spot this morning and I caught them actually eating pieces they take off!
I've occasionally been...
I gave them some mash for the first time in a while and they all came running for that. The white laced is still the most apprehensive about all of it. The white plymouth has the most aggressive peck! It actually hurt a little lol. I decided to feed them with a long spoon shortly after.
Not the greatest picture.
From left to right: barred rock, white plymouth rock, buff orpington, silver laced wyandotte, and golden laced wyandotte.
They are about 3 weeks old now. Got them when they were about 10 days old. I decided on different breeds mainly to be able to tell them apart...
