Yep, I have 2 splash Astrolorps, one has been broody for 6 weeks when the second one went broody. So I gave both of them 3 eggs each. While they were sitting, they swapped and moved eggs constantly. Sometimes one will sit on all, sometimes it'll be 2 and 4, sometimes 1 and 5 and sometimes...
Thank you! I have been sneaking in some fat mealworms to her and bringing her some fruit/veggie/eggs while she was sitting. Last 2 days, I'm giving them and chicks some eggs as well. Her comb is still a nice color and she still looks really pretty for such a long time sitting.
Just wanted to give everyone an update, just in case another newbie was looking for the info.
While I was contemplating of what to do with my persistent broody, another one decided to join her. So, I went and got 6 eggs and stuck 3 under each. They both successfully sat and hatched 4 chicks...
Hi, thats pretty much my question...I have a Splash Astrolorp, 13 months old, that already went broody 3 times. This last time, she is been at it for over 6 weeks. I take the eggs, kick her out, lock her out, she seems fine and then right back at it. Is it too late in the game to give her some...
Thank you! I think we will be good doing 2 batches of 25 in a year, which will be more than enough chickens for our small family. It definitely was a much easier experience than we expected, even processing. I hope more people will try even if they have limited space, because it can definitely...
I have nothing to compare to since it was our first time, but I was willing to try anything to help with smell everyone talks about. Good to know that we should stick with fermented feed next time as well.
Hi everyone!
I just wanted to share our first time experience with meaties especially for those who are still researching and may benefit from what we did and learned, as we apparently broke a few rules of when and how, lol
Our situation: We live on .3 acre lot with only about half of it...
Do any of you use this bedding in the brooder. I just went to pick it up from Tractor Supply in hopes I can put it as flooring for my baby chicks, but it smells really really strong, so I was just wondering if it was safe. Any of you have experience using this bedding with babies?
Hi Everyone,
I would like to offer my 1 week old chicks a dish with sand for dust bathing. We have heavy clay soil so there really is no dirt to dig up. My question is: do I use new sand out of the bag or is it better to scoop some up from our run with "native" cultures so to speak?
Hi Everyone,
I would like to offer my 1 week old baby chicks a dish of sand to dust bath in. We have heavy clay soil, so there really is no dirt to dig up. My question is: do you use brand new sand out of the bag or is it better to scoop it out of the run with "native" cultures so to speak?
And here is our Runt, baby #3 that I didn't think will make it. This one was born on day 23 with egg yolk still attached, sticky, and got trampled by the other two pretty badly. This one is half the size of others, but really got a will to live and spunky. The sweetest of them all, love being...
