    American serama thread!

I'm with nchls on this one. He's been working to selectively breed smallest of his flock. his comment was about hatching time with eggs and that his tiny birds are taking slightly longer in the egg than the larger birds he started with. Also froggie about your comments about hatching eggs from...

    Serama Hatch-A-Long!!

Still looking for silkie genetics... the four birds I lost where all suppose to be half silkied serama. I've got two roo's now, one will have to go before I go adding more adult birds ;)

    EE Serama Project

Kept the two best roosters. One is a serama mix the other is straight EE... Almost didn't keep the EE roo, but he's pretty and good natured so he stays for now

The cross beaks both were pure EEs. One didn't have it as bad but he was an ill tempered boy as well so black marks all around. The hen was solid blue the roo was red and blue.

Definitely more green than what they came from. Had a two eggs today. The other is slightly more olive in color, think it came from the second serama mix hen,but not certain. Have 4 bantam EE hens as well who all hatched from your eggs. I had two with cross beak, once the issue began effecting...

    Serama Hatch-A-Long!!

Haven't been active lately, but thought I'd give the update that my serama X EE hens started laying! Part of me wants to start incubating them right now, but the more prudent side knows to wait till spring weather hits... I lost 4 young serama a few weeks ago when the weather dropped down to...

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I wish I'd seen it earlier. My daughter ended up putting a stick halfway through her foot so I've been pre occupied, but reading this made me want to cry. Did your hen pull through? How about the eggs? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you

    Serama Hatch-A-Long!!

Mine is looking way more straight feathered than silkied, but the feathers seem to have slightly more fretting than normal, so I suppose it could still grow out to be a low quality silkied. The chick is super small, but a little fire ball so it does have that going for it.

I tried doing the cave type, but it seemed like they got to hot, and I couldn't see them if they got into trouble. I set mine up like an L now, just have to make sure it's secure so they can't get trapped behind it or knock it over on others if they climb on top. I would like to try for more...

    Serama Hatch-A-Long!!

I switched to a multi setting heating pad for brooding. Seems to be working well on its lowest setting. So to early to tell for sure but it's looking like the little black serama is going to be straight feathered, but if it is it will definitely carry one silkied gene. Not going to hatch...

    Serama Hatch-A-Long!!

*sigh* it's part of keeping chickens I'd kinda forgotten about....despite our best efforts sometimes chicks don't make it, and sometimes something comes and eats them all. just have to provide the highest quality of life I can.
