This is Lucy ( or more likely Lou, LOL) this chick came from hatchery eggs. She has been handled since tiny and still is not very friendly to us or her chickens friends. I am really thinking cockerel, which means we need to rehome, but my kiddos don't trust mu chicken expertise ( or lack of...
I am brand new to chickens. This is my first flock ( if you call 7 a flock ). I am in love with my light brahma, hatchery chick, it is only 5 weeks old but is getting beautiful already. Can you guys share what you are think about sex...pullet or cockerel?
Here is the latest picture of my questionable breed chick. Now I am more concerned with gender than breed. In one week she has started to develop wattles and earlobes that are pinkish! Are you guys still thinking pullet or is it starting to say roo?
That looks very much like mine. Maybe once she feathers out more we can figure it out. Honestly as long as she is a she I will be happy because she is friendly and fun. My son was hoping he could show her for 4-h so that is the need for breed! Thank you everyone for helping. I will post more...
I double checked this morning. This one has a single comb. The eggs came from mcmurray hatchery and they dont breed barnevelders. SS, GLW, and DC they do.
I have been studying these pages for weeks...time to see if I have learned anything! This one someone said was an EE but the egg assortment didn't included ee's(or hatchery advertised amerecauna's) so the only guess I can make is maybe speckled Sussex? But pretty sure it is a pullet as the other...
The kindergarteners at my school hatched them from a hatchery premium large fowl egg assortment. You are right the buff one has yellow legs. The Brahma and the buff were the two I was questioning the possibilities of rooster the most! Thank you so much for your help!
Well as I said I am completely new to chickens. I have been reading thread after thread for hours every night trying to learn something. Evidently I haven't yet.
LOL. This is the same bird as the previous pictures, just a week later. The comb has just grown so quickly, I thought I had read...
I am getting worried. This is my favorite of my chicks but its comb is developing much faster. It appears to have 3 rows to it's comb....does that mean this Is a roo? Cant have a rooster so hoping to determine as early as possible before my kiddos ( and ill admit it...me) get too attached!
