I had a mesh netting that was for my ringneck pheasants. I never had any problems before and I didn't think twice when i moved it to my quail pen. I just got back home with 1/2" wire mesh. Hopefully tomorrow it isn't raining and I'll fix the pen.
I know eagles are big, but holy smokes he made...
Hi everyone. It was a tragic morning today when an eagle.....yes, an eagle, Crashed through my quail aviary and killed three of my gambel quail hens. Does anyone know of an eagle deterrent? I had that poultry netting on the top that I reused from my ringneck pen. I guess I never considered...
Thanks RuRu... I buy waterfowl starter crumbles from a local feed store that grows and mixes it themselves without chemicals. He works one on one with you and if you aren't sure, he helps you along. It's pretty cool. He owns the business, and has been doing this for almost 50 years! He is one of...
So far, he can stick his neck out almost straight just to drink, the it curls back. Can I try to put some kind of neck brace on him to keep it straight? His neck is more limber now that I started the poly-vi-sol drops. It seemed very stiff at first, but now when I rub his neck to get the...
I had planned on them staying in the 18x18 pen. But i'll be darned if i know why they would destroy the pen...but leave the edible fruits and veggies in the garden alone.
TLWR, if I really establish hostas and lillies, would they have a chance against them? These guys peeled the bark right off...
Thanks the Goose Girl! That makes me laugh and feel a little better about mine! I had them outside for a spell today, and they tried thier hardest to eat the grass. The gosling was ironically named slinky....now his neck looks like one. He drank twice with his neck straight today, but then it...
Hi everyone! I have been looking around on here at various threads on duck ponds (and I must say I am incredibly jealous of them!!!) and have decided to graduate from a kiddie pool to a poured concrete pool for my pair of khaki campbells. I did a remake pond for my mandarins last year, but they...
The goose girl, I have the pen lined in 1/8" chicken wire. Same thing with the bottom. His waterer is on two bricks, side by side, but it's the large gallon waterers. It's high enough for them to be able to fall in, but low enough for them to drink. There isn't any other ledges for him to fall...
My local Tsc was out of stock of the vitamins, so the girl recommended poly-vi-sol. I searched around on byc and I read that there are some people that use that.
So, that being said, I bought some and gave him two drops this morning at about 9 am and another two drops at 9pm. When he drank, he...
Hi everyone. About two weeks ago, I bought some day old brown chinese goslings and I thought I would give them a go. I cleaned out their brooder pen with bleach, then super hot soapy water to make sure the last of the bleach was washed away. It then sat empty for a little over a week before I...
I have a cameo peahen, she is about a year old. She started acting sluggish about 3 days ago, so I brought her inside put her in a pen and put a heat lamp over her. The pen is big enough for her to get avay from the light if she wants to. However, she hasn't been eating, I don't think she drank...
Yikes. I imagine it's like a turkey attack? My tom went after me when I was worming one of his "lady friends". He is such a ham. I say lady friends and his tail fans out right away like they are close lol.
If the first two peahens are ok with the pigeons, and the last one is okay with the...
Thank you for all the replies! I was nervous when I saw it that maybe she isn't ...a she. Lol. Is there any truth to the java strains being more aggressive then the standard colors? And to sound dumb, peafowl must see color because they never go after the white pigeons, they only fan the brown ones.
