If the cage is too small get them in something bigger if you have it (floor space wise) if you can’t do that safely cover the glass (heat sources and objects near them freak me out because 🔥 ) taping paper to the glass to stop reflections and them seeing out should help. Or give them some cover... -

Before I got to the part where you saw the freak out I was going to say one or more are getting startled and sending the others into a panic. You know how bird dogs flush birds? The whole group flies up and away to escape danger... birds also do this at night, except when yours do that they hit... -

My top guesses are fox and raccoon. Wet cat food works great for both, adding a visual like a group of feathers on a string can help. They smell food but are wary, so seeing the movement snaps the mind into predator instinct which might cancel the caution long enough to get them trapped. The...- FoxManor
