Good to know! I always bought from local feed mill but wanted breeds they didn't have. Guess I'll try when the weather is warmer from one of the well known hatcheries.
I ordered from purely poultry in Wisconsin. They told me they have had a lot of issues shipping this direction since the USPS started sub contracting with fedex
Unfortunately the hatchery that supplies all of my local farm stores does not do Sussex. I may still get some chicks from Farm and Fleet but I might have to order by mail to get SS.
My recent order came in but when I picked up the package, only 4 barred rocks survived. All my Sussex and the rest of the rocks died. Very disappointed. Gonna try to get some more Sussex later.
Ordered chicks and picked up the package. So sad, only 4 barred rocks survived and I lost all the Sussex. Got a refund but still was a bad feeling. Gonna try to get some more later.
Thanks for the good wishes. Yes, that is for hatchlings. Seems like the norm so I guess I didn't think much of it. Hope you locate a source near you. Otherwise, check out Purely Poultry. They cut shipping in half for 15+ chicks.
I also ordered Barred rocks. They are solid layers and, from my experience, very friendly. I ordered from purely poultry in Wisconsin. I chatted with one of their support people and was impressed.
