Hi everyone! Long time no see! Missed seeing all of my old friends on here. Welcome to all the newbies!!!

Yes, I am still alive, and yes, I still have my chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, peafowl, and guineas! Plus my cattle, goats, sheep, and hogs! Life is busy!
Most of you remember that my lovely wife was expecting a baby last year? Well, it was a girl, born on 10-11-15, 8 lbs, 2oz, 21 inches long! Diana Lollie A

Just an hour old, she was born at home.

At 3 months old.


Now at almost 4 months old.

she is beautiful, congrats!!

Opa, sorry to hear you are thinking of getting out of chickens, completely understand though, at some point we need to decide what we are going to cut back on, isn't old age fun (not)

hope you will still check up on us though your knowledge is so valuable. ( been thinking of cutting back myself, some days it is to much)

So we are getting new chickens ones for laying and meat chickens. I live i, southwest Michigan and it gets around 100 degrees in the summer and around 0 degreez in the winter so i was wondering what chickens would be the ideal chickens

most chickens are very resilient, so most any breed will work, you should go on the breed sight and see how many there are.. I love my Ameraucunas, and chantelers . both have small combs, less frost bite issues. do

you have young children that will want to hold them a lot, some breeds tend to be more people friendly( no guarantees ) have fun and know there is lots of info and help here


on the loss of chicks, who did you order from? it has been very cold, hard to ship chicks this time of year

Brought in 3 eggs so far this morning and 2 hens were waiting for the favourite nest box. Even got a green egg yesterday. That was a first since last fall from the EEs.
Freezer camp is approaching quickly for the 3 roos. They are beautiful birds but they just can't stay.I think I'll time the trip to Munsel's along with the arrival of chicks at TSC. A case of killing two birds with one stone. (pun intended)

Chicken Stock is June 11th this year. Will it fall to me to create the "official" CS2016 page? There were a few who complained about it last year for some reason. I can run it again this year but I'm going to wait to see what the specialist says about this pending surgery. Anyone else want to volunteer to help?

Congrats, Farmerboy!! Diana is beautiful!!! We sure did miss you and your pics and stories, tho!! Don't be a stranger. Hope to meet the little one at Chickenstock.

RaZ, do you have an appointment with dr about a date for your surgery? I don't know computers very well, and the internet service here in Dimondale sucks!! Most days can't get on. Not enough speed to send pics, etc. Hope someone can help out!

I ordered from purely poultry in Wisconsin. They told me they have had a lot of issues shipping this direction since the USPS started sub contracting with fedex

Unless things have changed, they are a middle man for ordering. You order chicks and they send your order to a hatchery (privett, ideal, mcmurray, etc) and THAT is where your chicks come from. Granted, my BiL ordered from them 3 years ago, but that's how it was...our birds were ordered from purely poultry and were shipped from ideal hatchery in Missouri.

Good to know! I always bought from local feed mill but wanted breeds they didn't have. Guess I'll try when the weather is warmer from one of the well known hatcheries.
