With all the talk of moving or not mobing hens I figured I would tell how I do it. In my Silkie coop I use nest boxes on the floor that are not attached. Years ago I bought a couple of plastic stackable drawer units. The outside is about a foot square and theit has a smaller draw (box) that...

Broody Hen - HELP I Need Advice!

you might need to make some steps for them to get out. I use scrap lumber or flat rocks. I don't know is the hen will take them back into the tub, but you can make some steps for them to get in too.

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Just started another half silkie setting on 8 Buff Orpington eggs. This is her second time hatching for this year. I use my silkies and silkie crosses for all my hatching. Need replacement egg layers and roosters for the freezer. They seem to fill the role quite well.

Laying at less than 4 months old

I don't post often, read this board regularly. I have been around and raising chickens my whole life, over 40 years. I don't push my chicks or use any medicated feeds. I cull ruthlessly. My laying flock is kept rotated as production lags. Well, enough background. I puschase some Gold Stars...

Has anyone Order from these Hatcheries??

I get my laying hens and broilers (when I buy them) from Hoover's. They geared toward production not fancy looking chickens. I have always been stiafied with them. Been ordering form them since 2001. Very responsive and easy to deal with. I get production browns or reds and broilers.

I use hens to hatch all my chicks. I have a small flock of Cochins, 8 hens, that seem to set very well. Added some silkie hens now. The Silkies do a good job, but the full sized Cochins cover many more chicks. Last year all Cochin hens I had hatched chicks. This year they seem to running...
