We actually had to put them down ourselves because as much as I love my hens, I don’t have the money to pay for extra food for the ones that aren’t laying, and I don’t want them to suffer anymore than they have to. When they get to 4 years like some of the ones I have now, they aren’t laying...
Thank you all. One more died a couple of weeks ago due to a prolapsed vent. She appeared to be better, but the next time I checked on her she was completely stiff.
I do plan on getting some (HEALTHY) chicks in the next couple of weeks. My local feed store is getting in some Salmon Faverolles...
R.I.P. to my final two hens from the original 6. The first hens we bought were 2 White Leghorns, 2 Rhode Island Reds, and 2 Americanas. Sadly, after 5 full and happy years, all of those 6 hens are gone. The RIRs, one White, and one Americana all died throughout the last 4 years give or take...
Thank you! I always make sure the nesting boxes are clean so I don’t think that is the issue but I will keep checking. Dirty feet would be possible, but they do have full grass in the bottom of their coop.
As far as deworming, I think we used to put some diatomaceous earth in their food but...
I was wondering if anyone knew the best food for my ladies...
I have several girls who are older (I’m talking 5 years) but are still laying semi-regularly...
My problem is, even though the eggs are fine inside, the outside looks a little scary sometimes.
Also, most of the eggs I get aren’t...
Thanks!!! They’re a crazy flock, but I’m happy to raise them! I know it might be a little late, but hopefully I can get some chicks and add some new girls to the bunch!
Thank you! It is very possible for it to be a raccoon... We have found one in the top of the coop before, even though it was a few months ago.
Thank you everyone for all of your help!
I also forgot to mention that when my living Buff/Americana mix was in the middle of the yard, she got down in the crouched position (like when a rooster is in the area) and there were multiple other hens just going at her and pecking her.
Thank you all for your help. I don’t think I have problems with weasels because there hasn’t been another incident since, but I will keep a lookout. I also plan to check for mites tonight.
I haven’t found any feathers in the boxes or any around the coop for that matter. I also check the area...
