No, no more buffs in this batch, anyway. My son wants a couple of EE's for their colored eggs, and I'd like to do a breed comparison to see how different ones do with temperament and egg laying. I'm getting 2 EE's, 2 Australorps, and 2 SLW's. In a couple of years when I have more of an idea of...
Thank you!! :) They are my spoiled rotten little princess fluffy butts. We're getting more chicks in April, but these two will always be near and dear to my heart, as they were my first chickens. <3
Wanted to pop in and say Hi and post a pic of the girls from today's roll in the mud :)
Thank you all who posted about the hoop coop! It's definitely a viable option for us, especially if I can find a way to get those cattle panels home.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday :)
Here are my girls :) Nugget is the "fluffy" one in the back. Frita is the smaller one in the front. She's been laying for almost a month. Nothing from Nugget yet. They are 29 weeks old. :)
This may be a stupid question... but how do you know the door you buy is going to fit within the arch that the cattle panels make?
... I am so clueless when it comes to construction things, but I have a few months and I'm willing to learn.
My frita, after giving me an egg this morning -...
Here is the corner of my yard I'm hoping to put it in. I have to be a bit careful, since we aren't allowed to have chickens in the village. (we can have them in the TOWN, just not the VILLAGE, which is stupid.) I figure anything that is covered in tarps is going to look like a greenhouse, if...
It's so intimidating. I wish I knew someone who had hoop-coop experience who lived close enough to help. I pay in some pretty amazing pulled pork, and as many beers as it takes to assemble a hoop coop! :)
I am VERY uncrafty and don't know how to build ANYTHING. I have some very basic tools, but don't own a saw or anything like that. If it's ridiculously easy, I may be able to manage it. :)
*waves* - Hi, everyone. Long time, no talk. Busy summer / fall, just starting to slow down for the winter.
We rehomed Waffles (the light brahma mix who ended up being a roo) and he has his own flock of 15 girls just down the road. Last I heard, he was very happy.
Frita and Nugget are doing...
They're all so pretty!!! My son was the one really hoping for pretty blue/green eggs, I will just have to keep my fingers crossed. I am just appreciative for the variety of color in the egg basket, since the rest of the girls will all be laying brown eggs.
I was reading about breed...
How pretty!!! I am looking forward to having EE's to lay some pretty eggs for us! (Those that have Meyer EE's, how are they with egg color?)
Thank you all for the warm welcome :)
The waiting is the wooooorst. Five, long, COLD, NY winter months.... *sigh* ....
She ended up laying her first egg on 11/29, after just about a week of squatting :) Just waiting on my other chicken - who is much bigger! - to catch up and start laying for me, too. :)
I did it!!!! I placed an order with Meyer for my spring chicks! I am SO excited! :)
We currently have two buff orpington girls - Frita and Nugget - they are 27 weeks old and Frita just started to lay on Saturday.
I originally thought we should start small and got our two girls from a...
My two buff orp hens were born at the end of May - I've been waiting anxiously since about the end of september for them to start laying, and today, I got my first egg!! SO, so excited!!!! :)
