So I have a bantam Cochin who is limping. I’ve checked her feet and I’m thinking she might possibly have bumblefoot (pictures below) on her right foot. The crazy thing is yesterday morning she was favoring the other foot big time but that one seems fine. Like she is barely putting any weight on...
Help! One of my chickens was attacked by a falcon this afternoon. I’ve cleaned her wounds, mostly just scratches but there are a couple spots I’m concerned about. Right at the point where the wing come ya to the body and a puncture just in front of the wing. I’ve flushed with saline and applied...
I’m curious to see if she starts laying soon or holds out till spring. My 26 week old hens are laying still, only started about a month ago, so anything is possible! Fingers crossed! :fl
I've been pretty confident that our little Penny is a pullet but I just want to make sure I’m thinking correctly lol. She is 17 weeks now and since she is my first and only RIR I have nothing to compare to. I feel like she is much redder today than she normally is...perhaps getting ready to lay?
I’m not necessarily concerned about nutrients I just know that can have an effect on the feathers if they are lacking something.
They get mealworms and fresh fruit/veggies as treats. For feed she is on a mix of layer/starter feed because the others aren’t laying yet
I’m pretty sure she is actually the dominant one based on behaviors when I introduced newbies to the flock. They aren’t penned up too much during the day, they spend most of their time ranging in my big enclosed garden
@Wyorp Rock here is a photo of her. With the angle you can’t see the feathers in question but they are always showing at her side
No rooster, she carries her wings the same as the other chickens but those flight feathers are very exposed because of the curls. And they were definitely more...
I noticed today that my bantam frizzle Cochin has thinning in her flight feathers. I checked her out good and don’t see any parasites. Do I need to be concerned about this? She is 21 weeks and just started laying a week ago (6 eggs in 8 days!), she it the first one to lay in the flock, I don’t...
Hey all!!!
Well at officially 20 weeks our little frizzle laid her first egg :celebrate:wee:ya so our little Hay Hay is definitely a girl!!! I guess it’s time to open up the nesting boxes since she laid this one in the garden. I think I scared all the chickens I was so excited :lau
It’s officially been 1 week together and they are basically getting along all the time! :ya They even come out of the coop together now when I open it in the morning so that is super exciting. One big happy flock now, thank you to everyone who offered your advice and suggestions! I’m hoping soon...
I’m so glad it’s starting to work for you! Two days of it and things are getting better each day. I only had 1 incident I needed to break up yesterday because the youngster was actually stuck. The first night I had to place them In the coop but last night the youngsters went in there just fine...
