I cant handle her so I cannot check her for a prolapse. Do you think it could be vent gleet because her poopy butt is really starting to stink BAD. It may just be from the poopy and bloody feathers.
Looks like scaly leg mites. Soak in warm water to remove any dead scales, then suffocate the mites with petroleum jelly, or use other products made for this. If the other flock members have it treat them all, and you can disinfect their coop with things like Diatomaceous Earth.
Some chickens have a little bit of a poopy butt once in a while. Follow the deworming advice on the package for how often to deworm. If she's acting normal I wouldn't be overly concerned but keep an eye on her and do some research about it too :)
After 24 hours, you could try very gently chipping away at the shell with tweezers and using a bit of water to keep the membrane soft. Do little at a time. Interference is the last resort. See how it's doing, and don't keep it out of the incubator for more than 5 minutes if you can.
Thank you for your reply!
She seems a little bit perkier today though she's still obviously not feeling well. I just made her some mash and she's eating at it more than anything else we've tried (scrambled egg, scratch), so hopefully that helps her. I'll see if I can get some calcium, where can...
Okay, thanks for the tips. She has been pecked at so I moved her into to box. She's struggling to poop, only a little dribble will come out. Don't know if that's from swelling or not eating, or both. There's so many things I'm not sure about nor how they tie together. I hate seeing her like this.
Hi! I currently have a Rhode Island Red, and two "no breed" chickens from a feed store, maybe Leghorn, and light brown hen. One's currently sick, check out my other post if you can help! :(
I had a problem like this. They make plastic "blinders" that clip onto a chickens face, called pinless peepers. I used them and they worked well ,the block a chickens forward sight but they still see everything else well. Try giving them scrambled eggs for extra protein as well :)
It could be, your chicken's young enough. This article has some helpful information. Diarrhoea in Chickens I'd watch her for other symptoms that could appear in the meantime. I had this happen once, I don't think it was anything serious though. You never know so I'd watch her closely. I hope...
My 2 year old chicken (looks to be a leghorn or a similar breed) has been a little puffed up for a few months now at times with poopy butt, but otherwise fine. Yesterday I came home to her hunched up in the nesting box, with blood drip and splatter in it. Thought she wouldn't make it through the...
Hello, I keep chickens in my front yard (hence the name "front yard chicken owner"). I've been keeping chickens of many breeds for about 5 years. I'm excited to join this page!
