    My 3 girls have done a great job of keeping us in eggs this winter, but today I found my first soft shelled egg broken in the nesting box. They do get oyster shell with their food so I am not sure why this happened. I don't know which one laid it, but I am hoping not to find another anytime soon.

    Yes, it is a bummer. Not sure I am ready for another chic just yet. I am new to chickens so my feet are still a little wet, but I have enjoyed them more than I ever dreamed of.

    I found out today that my EE is laying brown eggs, darn! I really wanted to add some color to my egg cartons and see the surprise look on my little egg collectors face when she found it. Oh well, better luck next time I guess.

    Being that yours is brown could mean that my EE is already laying and I thought it was my Buff Orpington! We have not caught them in the act so I'm not sure which is laying. We took bets on what color she would lay so my young egg collector will be very disappointed if it turns out to be brown...

    Our Buff Orpington is finally laying so now we are waiting for our EE to lay her first one. That will mean that all 3 are laying.I can't say it any better than this over excited smiley.

    Today is happy day, my EE is finally squatting so maybe soon she'll start laying even though the days are shorter. Of course my Buff has been squatting for a while now and no eggs from her.

    Bruce, My Rascal is 31 weeks old now. I can tell you it was quite a surprise to find an egg that size in the box considering the size of her other eggs. She's a good layer, laying an egg almost everyday. My other two are 27 weeks old and still no eggs.
