    Sudden hen death

I don't have anything helpful for you, but I'm having a very similar problem!

2nd hen deteriorating after 1st suddenly dropped dead?

Yes plenty. They have a big run with plenty of grit and are offered grit with their food as well.

2nd hen deteriorating after 1st suddenly dropped dead?

No egg that I could feel and she hasn't laid in a couple days. Her vent is small.

2nd hen deteriorating after 1st suddenly dropped dead?

It's possible they ate something but I'm not sure what. They've been in the same coop since I got them, and same run for months now. Sometimes a mouse or a toad will go in the run and get caught (they eat the mice but not the toads). I didn't see any egg bound but I can check more thoroughly up...

2nd hen deteriorating after 1st suddenly dropped dead?

Hello! I currently have a mixed flock of egg-laying hens that I got at the same time from the same hatchery (mostly red sex link, a few Sussex white and poule noir). A few days ago one of my reds was mostly hunched in one corner of the coop and didn't move much or seem interested in food. All...

    Hen laying only double-yolk eggs??

One of my Easter Eggers is currently doing this! She about 6 months old and so far most of her eggs have been huge double-yolkers.

    Giant eggs every time?

The large eggs don't bother me, I just feel bad for the chicken. They must be monsters to pass through. I hope it's not hurting her.

    Giant eggs every time?

How normal is it for a chicken to lay ultra-jumbo eggs almost every time? One of my Easter eggers lays ultra-jumbo eggs more than 50% of the time (2.75 ounces). She's about 6 months old and still getting a hang of the egg laying thing. They're always double yolked. I've seen other people post...

    DIY electrolytes?

I do, yes. I think it was the hot weather because as soon as it cooled down a bit their poops got better.

    Tre3hugger's Rabbit Thread

My post may have been unclear. I meant the house rabbit stuff for people who want to keep a rabbit as a house pet, not for rabbits that are farm animals. I wasn't suggesting you neuter your animals. I was suggesting that people who want to keep them as personal pets neuter them so they don't...

    DIY electrolytes?

Thanks for the tips! Maybe they're not getting enough grit because the plops were quite grassy, as in I could see a few blades of undigested grass. Will take a photo next time if I remember, although whoever had the plops seems to be better today.

    Tre3hugger's Rabbit Thread

You may already know about it, but the House Rabbit Society has good info on their website for people wanting rabbits as pets: rabbit.org - they're UK-based if I remember correctly but most of the info will be the same. There are also local house rabbit societies in many states and many offer...

    Tre3hugger's Rabbit Thread

Question for you about the ones you sell as pets - do you give people info about keeping rabbits as pets, especially about neutering the boys so they don't spray pee? (Sorry if I missed this in the thread, I read most but not every page.) I volunteer for the local humane society and we get so...

    DIY electrolytes?

One of my chickens seems to be have watery poops. It's been hot and they eat a lot of grass, so I'm not too concerned yet (no sign of blood or worms), but I want to give them some electrolytes. When they were chicks I used Sav-A-Chick from the feed store. Has anyone used DIY electrolytes? Do...

Free EE Roo in central OH

We're not allowed to have roosters, so I need to rehome "Priscilla" AKA Prince. He'd make a good rooster for someone's flock. (I'm looking for a home for him, not a dinner pot ;) Prince is an Easter Egger who came from a regional Ohio haterchery. He's a friendly bird, not aggressive at all...
