Single gosling - is there some way to co-raise it?

Thank you! I didn't want more geese, but once the goslings arrived, we went and cleaned everything up for them, and got things set up so they'd be good to go! And...it didn't work out...I am sadder than I should be!

Single gosling - is there some way to co-raise it?

Update: the 2nd gosling didn't make it. All was fine at my last late night check and this morning I found him "stepped on" too. :( Back to staying more proactive in my birth control efforts!

Single gosling - is there some way to co-raise it?

Thanks. That's my first inclination too, but it was more upsetting than it should have been, when I found the other baby dead yesterday. 😔 Well...this one had a long nap in the cardboard box and then obviously wanted out. So I took him back to his folks... ...and got a nice big bruise from...

Single gosling - is there some way to co-raise it?

Hi everyone! It's been an unadventurous while with no news...but now I have a " new to me" issue. Despite my best efforts at birth control, my pair of Embdens hatched two eggs on Saturday. I found one gosling dead yesterday. It looks like it was stepped on. Just now I found the remaining...

New to geese! Not sure about/how establishing a routine.

...and they poop...a lot... ...and they shed feathers...a lot...lol. Not quite sure how to manage housekeeping... ☺️ 🙄 🤔

New to geese! Not sure about/how establishing a routine.

Had time to test drive the PFP on Saturday. Had to catch them to put them in (for now). Gander, no problem. Goose was little skittish. They were fine in it, happy to eat the fresh grass. They were fine as I moved it too, walked along nicely inside. But...design flaw...couldn't get them out...

Oh! And I was going to add...they are now eating their pellets/grain, from the pan I have set up in the coop. I have mixed the pellets to 20% protein, then add chicken scratch. I've been throwing a handful of wheat into the clean water in the mornings, and they're eating that. So, I hope...

New to geese! Not sure about/how establishing a routine.

Thanks! :D I'm hoping we can get them used to it this fall, hopefully we have another nice month or maybe even longer! Wasn't planning on babies, unless I knew someone wanted them, but if we use it for that, we'll put on the skirting. This is mostly for my peace of mind. This way they can't...

New to geese! Not sure about/how establishing a routine.

I lied! ☺️ We McGyvered a PFP (portable foraging pen) this weekend. We made a frame, and attached the 3' high exercise pen panels to it. It is 6 x 10'. If it doesn't pan out, I can easily remove the exercise pen panels, or replace them with welded wire (or chicken wire). The wheels put it up...

    No webbed foot

I love turkeys too. I had two Royal Palm for a very short while, a few years back. The male was not healthy, so we knowingly took a chance on him, hoping to 'nurse' him back to health, but were unsuccessful. The hen however, seemed absolutely fine, and then one morning, she was dead. No...

Please tell me not all my geese are ganders

I'm absolutely of no help! But - three weeks into my first-ever geese, I can easily tell my Embden male from the female. He's taller, his neck is a bit longer...but his beak 'hump' is also more pronounced. It's easy though, when there's only two. Don't know if I'd be able to tell them apart...

    You have terrible neighbours! 😠

I accidentally used the wrong kind of diatomaceous earth in my goose coop! Will they be Okay?

Yes. It will be fine. Garden safe/food safe...are still quite safe. You just don't want to breath any appreciable amounts, or get it in your eyes. It's the pool type that you need to be careful with. And even that, in small amounts, hosed down, shouldn't pose any problems. DE kills insects...
