Thank you for the detailed reply! I did see the Safeguard goat dewormer at the store - I think I'll return the Wazine and get that instead. So, it is interchangeable? I will be ok using the goat stuff on my chickens? I am a small animal vet tech so I know what to use for dogs and cats but I'm...
I am trying to worm my flock (for good measure) and at Murdoch's they recommended Wazine. Upon getting home and reading the bottle a little more carefully I am reading that it should not be given to chickens that produce eggs for human consumption. Ahem - this is ALL my chickens do hahaha. So if...
I am going to bump this for you. I am curious also. My understanding is that if she had sour crop the crop would not be empty - it would be full of food, some rotting, because that is what produces the foul smell hence the name "sour crop"... but I am no expert.
Small flock, four free range 1-yr-old Black Australorp hens.
Diet: Corn scratch, Purina Layena, freeze-dried mealworms (winter-not many bugs out), oyster shell. Our leftovers for treats, usually veggies, fruits, pastas, cheese, bread.

I was instructed to feed medicated for the first few months. We got 5 chicks (days old) and I was told that I should get a large bag of medicated feed and when that was out, we could switch to regular with oyster shells and/or grit. I'm not sure what "red cell" is but I also picked up a...
I have 5 new Black Australorp pullets. Just picked them up from the co-op today so I'm guessing they are days old. I have them in a tub with a 250w heat lamp, wood shavings, medicated chick start and water fortified with Sav-A-Chick. When do they start needing sun? Should they have a little bit...
Aw poor baby :( He doesn't look so good. To cull it means to essentially put it out of it's misery.
As a vet tech I can definitely say that exposed bone will make your chick very likely to get life threatening infections and illness.
