Hello, everyone!
We have a flock of 9 hens. 4 were our original flock, and we added 5 new chicks this year. We followed all protocols for adding chicks to an existing flock, and at first it went very well. However, as of this morning, we’ve had two instances in the past month where one chicken...
It rained today and her feathers got damp, so I thought seeing them not so frizzled out might be helpful. I’m not seeing any evidence of saddle feathers I don’t think, but I also just don’t know how to tell in a frizzle.
Hello, everyone! This is our first experience with a chick that is frizzled. I know the general signs of a rooster in normally feathered chickens, but when it comes to a frizzle chick, what are we looking for?
The chick is 9, almost 10 weeks old and is small. Has a small comb, no wattles, but...
That’s my fear with how red the comb is already, but I’m trying to hold out hope with the fact that it’s still very small. I don’t know what characteristics to look at with a frizzle chicken!
Checking back in at 9 weeks with our Green Queen Bantam. We’ve never had a frizzle or a bantam before, so I’m not sure what to look for characteristic wise.
All I’ve noticed is that her comb is redder than the others at the same age, but it’s still small. I jokingly call her Uncle Fester, and...
Hello, everyone! Our 9 week old Cookies and Cream chick from Meyer Hatchery was pecked by another hen this week, so we brought her in for chicken hospital treatment. While we were treating her, we noticed her comb is a little pink. This is our first time having a crested breed, would anyone mind...
Thank you for your help everyone! We applied antibiotic ointment a few times a day after cleaning it and kept her inside for a day. Her wound look much better and she has great energy.
We don't have a rooster, so it was the other hens. I bought BluKote to apply, but we will keep her in a dog...
Hello, everyone! This morning when we went out to check on our flock, our 8 week old Cookies and Cream chick had a bloody neck. Is this from the older chickens attacking her?
They’ve been mixed in for two weeks with no issues at all, so I’m not sure what happened. This is also our first chicken...
Their main diet is Nutrena layer feed, the 17% protein formula. They’ve been on it since last fall.
To my knowledge nothing is spooking them at night. The coop is completely secure, I don’t see any way that those animals could be getting in to eat the eggs. My daughter is worried and has been...
