Chicken wire on top of run

I plan to run the chicken wire around the bottom tomorrow. I also found a product at Tractor Supply called "Dig Defense". It prevents animals from digging under your fence.

Chicken wire on top of run

I saw where someone suggested running mason's string in a random pattern over the top of the run. Mine is 25 x 25. I am also concerned now about chickens sticking their heads through the 2x4 welded wire fence and getting involved with the electric fence wire.

    Feed in the Coop?

When I allow the chickens out into the yard, do I need to provide food inside the coop? I will have feeders and water outside in the yard. I am thinking they will only go in the coop during bad weather, for sleeping and laying eggs. It seems like extra work to provide food and water inside...

    Chicken Coop Signs?

As an avid YouTube watcher I often see coops with signs of various kinds usually Fresh Eggs or some thing to that effect. Do any of you have a sign on your coop? Here is mine:

You might be a “Southie” if...

I am a southie, is that a bad thing? On Christmas day I was wearing shorts and a tee shirt. I have seen too many photos of trucks sticking up out of an icy lake to attempt such a thing.

When can they be set free?

The yard is 25 feet square, it will be wired with an electric fence on the outside and I plan to use brightly colored string in random patterns over the top to discourage hawks. They can get under the coop and there are trees around to provide shade.

When can they be set free?

My chicks are three weeks old. They are in the coop where they will live. They are not free to go out into the chicken yard yet. So how old should they be before I can let them out into the yard? I have Olive Eggers and Lavender Ameraucana.

    My Coop and Yard

My coop is 4 x 8 and built off the ground. The chickens will have room underneath to get out of the sun and rain. The posts are pressure treated but covered on the inside with cedar fence boards. The chickens wont come into contact with the pressure treated wood. There will be two more doors...
