UPDATE: One was eaten the next morning. But nothing since in the outside 12X12. I brought 6 of the inside my house in a 150 gal water trough with pine shaving, water, food, a little bit of hay... One eaten. But nothing since. They have preaned most of the grease off. It is not a preditor I...
Its 12' x 12' they take up very little of the space and freek out(Cheep alot) when one gets on the other side of the room.
3 hours ago... no one had any wounds at all .. No one now has any wounds.. grease all over them but no bloody spots. I have picked up the body... or all that is left...
They have a red light... I have to turn on a florescent ligt to see. The bugs come when I am there... They have a red heat lamp... but its warm here now and they are not really around it... Its a 12x 12 enclosure cedar walls with wire opening around top for ventalation. The have perches and...
Yikes.... One eaten... nothing left but 1 wing, a foot and some internal organs. Everyone in the hospital it OK.
The other are preening the grease off playing with hay catching bugs that are coming to the light. A few are grouped together away from the light.
This can't be happening.
I guess that's the idea... they take one bite (beck) most of the time on themselves first. It seems like they think it is bad by their behavior. I tried it on a few of the injured ones they just picked on someone else.
Tonight... I put it on everyone. We will see. I'm going to see them...
I currently have little gobes of red grease on them... The are pecking at it and wiping their beaks on the ground... They don't like it I hope I don't kill them with grease.
No.. they didn't say anything about willing to do that.
They said I would have to bleach everything and burn the ground if they were on dirt.. Anything with blood on it. They think it started when a few were dead in the box when they arrived. They got their taste of blood. I didn't know...
They have and do have access to a red light. I have hay but not green grass... I have hay. I have removed all the ones with any injury and within days they are back to pecking and within days eating them
They are telling me me that they will continue and that if I let them with grown chick they will find the week one.. lower on the pecking order and start killing.
I have had chicks for year and I can't tell you how much I LUV them. I have raised lots of them with little loss. I need help in trying something... i can't think of killing these normal healthy looking chicks that are go syco and become killers
I have a small group of chick that arrived March 25. The started out with a little pecking and it has progressed into full blown cannibalism. Nothing let but wings and feet.
I am desperate. The hatchery told me that I should kill them that it won't stop.
I just hate to do that.. I don't...
