Thanks! I'm new to roosters and chickens in general. But about 400 yards away from us, our neighbors have peacocks and chickens that are constantly talking, so that's probably what got RJ (my rooster) talking.
My rooster is a 6 month old buff orpington, he was crowing a lot today at around 3:15 CT and didn't know the reason for it. I didn't know if it's weather related because we just got put in a tornado watch here in SW Oklahoma. Or it's because he can finally crow strongly. Its weird because I've...
I have a couple broody ameraucana hens, but the one I see most in the coop is the smallest out of the flock and she lays a medium sized egg. I'm planning on maybe putting some fertile buff Orpington eggs under her. But instead of using her, I might use the larger orangish colored ameraucana hen.
I have a broody black ameraucana hen and I figured I'd get her some fertile eggs to hatch out. I'm just wondering how many standard size eggs I can fit under her! The most she's ever sat on is 5 in the short period I've had them (5 is also the most that's been in the coop at one point) I'm not...
I found him on craigslist and they said free if you catch him, so before I call, I want to know what breed y'all think he is and if the breed is for meat or for eggs.
I was wondering if the broody hen would just raise the chicks even if she didn't hatch them. The hen has never hatched anything out before, but I often find that she gathers up a couple eggs sits on them. Have y'all ever had a broody hen raise chicks that she didn't hatch?
The two hens I'm talking about are the only white ones and they have black polka dots on them. They aren't broody and one is kinda the "bully" of the flock. Not sure what color egg they lay. I got them with a group of ameraucanas and Easter eggers and a Dominique.
To start off my name is Cole, I'm 13 y/o and new to chickens. My cousin was getting rid of his chickens to get some different breeds, so he gave me the 12 chickens that he had left which were 4-5 pure Amerauacana hens, 1 pure Dominique or barred rock hen(not sure which), 5 Easter egger hens, and...
