Massaging with oil is used as a first method of treatment. Epsom salts is after all other methods have failed or for very stubborn impactions.
This link has an article on how to treat both sour and impacted crop...

Hi there! Welcome to the forums! First off, Facebook is full of all kinds of misinformation. Don't believe anything you read there. Your chickens will be just fine. And you definitely haven't ruined any of their lives. I've been fortunate enough to not have had to use blu kote on my...

I'm sorry to hear that one of your hens isn't feeling well. How does her crop feel? Does her breath smell sour? Here's a link to a wonderful article that will help you treat sour crop...
It sounds like she's making a bit of progress. Keep doing what you are doing until her crop goes down. It might take a few days, so be persistent and don't get discouraged
Please keep us updated on her progress.
It sounds like your hen has either impacted or sour crop. Is her crop hard or soft and squishy? Does her breath smell sour when you smell her beak? Here's an article with very good instructions on how to identify and treat exactly which one you are dealing with. I found it to be very helpful...
Her foot looks really good! That's some nice pink-ish colored skin there! I would apply plain triple antibiotic ointment (no pain relief), wrap her feet, and monitor how they are healing up.
Continue the current treatment of her left foot until the scab comes off and the kernel (if there is...
I don't think that is an ingrown feather. It looks like a new feather that has pushed though the skin and is in the process of growing. I've seen a few of these on my hen, Mischief, in pretty much the same area around her vent. Just monitor it for the time being.
This definitely looks like bumblefoot. There are several ways you can treat it. Personally, I'm all for starting out with gentle methods to remove it, as to not cause my bird any unnecessary pain. What I would do to start with is soak the feet in warm epsom salts, like you are doing, but maybe...
2 cute fairy eggs from my 2 pullets that just started laying. Luna started laying a week ago and has been consistently giving me tiny but adorable eggs. And Starr started laying 2 nights ago. Hers are also tiny but adorable. I'm so proud of them both! :love
I had this same thing happen with my 3 year old hen, Mischief. She's a mixed breed. She started laying around 5 months old, on June 27, 2023. She kept laying for over 2 years without molting. She only missed a few days in that time frame. She FINALLY molted August of 2025 and it was like a...
Thank you! She's a sweetheart. That's one of the things I've read about Lavender Orpingtons. Some bloodlines just lay tiny eggs.
I'll let you know if hers get any bigger in the future or if they stay the same size.
Thank you! I've been doing a bit of reading up on first eggs because this is the first time I've had a pullet lay such small eggs. The last couple of times, the girls laid eggs that were pretty much how big their eggs were always going to be. So this is entirely new to me. It's been fun learning...
Hi all! I have a happy post to share this time around instead of the usual.. 'what's possibly wrong with my chicken.'
This past week my Lavender Orpington, Luna, laid her very first eggs! So far she's given me three of the cutest and tiniest eggs that I've ever seen a chicken lay. The first...
