Hello. It has been awhile since I posted, however I still check in and read post.. I have a question. I have 12 Golden Comets and 10 BOs. They are about 14 months old. The last month or so my GC brown eggs have faded to tan, and my BO tan eggs have turned white. Chickens are in good health...
I was reading the thread below about when to start chicks on layer feed. Is mash the same thing? My local feed mill makes its own mash for 10$ per 100 lb. and right now I am feeding grower at $13 per 50lb.. My hens are 12 1/2 weeks old. 12 BOs and 12 Golden Comets. Should I keep them on...
I wouldn't say they are to shy. I had a 450lb black bear rip my compost bins apart after the old spoiled fruit and veggies I threw in there. my neighbor who lives 100 yards away from me just happen to be up at 5am and saw him. I now watch what goes into my compost bins, grass, chicken...
Thanks everyone. Love this site and all the kind people with great help. I feel better now. I will just keep them apart for awhile and try to heal them.
I moved my 5 week old chicks last night into coop this morning I had to move 4 chicks out the others had them pecked raw where the tail feathers come in. What is happing?
Got tired of waiting. I was in TSC yesterday and they had 100s of chicks, so I went home with 18 Golden Comets. They are straight run so will have to wait to see what I have. If the Orps come later, that is ok too. The Comets look so tiny compared to the 2 week old Cornish X. The Cornish...
They do like to eat/ I have a metal feeder with the top that has little holes for there heads, they are about 16 inches long and I am filling them twice a day.
I finallyl got some of my chicks. Two dozen of the Cornish X came, still waiting on the Buff Orpingtons, don't know what the hold up is. The Mill keeps saying the hatchery tells her that they are being shipped the next day, but it has been 2 months now. The Cornish will be 2 weeks old tomorrow...
Just finished building my coop. I have 2 2x3 windows that hinge out with hardware cloth over the inside on northeast and also 2 on the southwest side. I also have hardware cloth over the sofit about 8" wide. I live in western PA is this enough? What about winter, when the windows are closed...
I am not sure where to post this question. I see a thread for meat chickens, but not for laying chickens. Any way, here is my question. Are sex link chickens any better layers then just the Rhoad Island Red? Or any standard chicken. I am leaning toward a mixed flock of maybe, bo, br, and rir.
Hi, just saw this thread. I am from Western PA, 90 miles NE of Pittsburgh. Headed for the Pitts area today to see my son and grandaughters. Saw someone said they were just across the Delaware near Easton. my daughter lives in Phillisburg, heading there end of March for her birthday and...
