My Flock of Pet Chickens — Dead. Can Self-Waterers Poison Water?

There are numerous reasons that chickens die. Don't assume it's the water or waterer....just because it smelled bad. It could have been...but it could also have been other reasons. Disease, predation, etc. Normally, you might see signs of predation - but some of the little killers - just...

I've never heard or read that the beans in Pork n Beans are soybeans. I believe they are navy beans or something very similar. If they are soybeans - can someone "link" me to that information?

    Looking for Rhode Island Whites

One of my 4-H poultry kids is looking for exhibition quality RIWs. She has a few that came from a hatchery, but is interested in upgrading her stock. She will be in 9th grade and does a very nice job with her chickens. Can anyone point me (us) in the right direction? thanks

from the photos, I would guess pullet. I was taught that the hackle feathers are great indicators of gender. Rooster hackle feathers are very pointed - female hackles are rounded at the end. From the 2nd pic, the hackle feathers look more rounded or blunt on the end - instead of sharply pointed.

    Showing Mix Breeds???

showing mixed breed chickens - depends on the show. ABA or APA sanctioned shows...NO. But some county fairs - particularly in 4-H and FFA classes any kind of chicken is permitted. 4-H and FFA usually have competition for meat chickens - usually cornish cross. Most 4h/FFA shows encourage...

    Best Tasting Chicken Breed

As someone said previously - "taste" is very subjective and very much of an individual thing. Taste is acquired. Little if anything objective about best "tasting". Tenderness can be measured by a shear test. But flavor and taste - each person can have a different preferred taste. I think...
