I'm confused - soybeans are poisonous raw, but homemade feed...

Quail, pheasant and numerous other birds eat soybeans. Don't they have the same digestive system as the domesticated chicken?
 
I've never heard or read that the beans in Pork n Beans are soybeans. I believe they are navy beans or something very similar. If they are soybeans - can someone "link" me to that information?
